Increasing Volume

Featured Replies

I recently purchased Finale 2007 and have composed a piano piece using Garritan Sounds Orchestra (which was included), but it seems that the piano piece recorded far too soft. I've tried modifying the playback settings and volume controls, but they seem to have little effect. I've tried using Audacity to increase its volume, but it just leaves the piece distorted. I've put in dynamics, but even without them the piece is hard to hear. Is there a setting in Finale to directly increase playback volume?

so you tried the channel volume already?

just go into sound forge/audacity whatever and up the volume. You dont' want it 'distorted' clipping.

from wikipedia:

Clipping (audio) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clipping is a form of distortion that occurs when an amplifier is overdriven, which happens when it attempts to increase voltage or current beyond its threshold.

just amplify/adjust volume bit by bit, and watch the wave file, if it starts to get close to the edge of the available space, that means you're close to clipping, and don't have much 'headroom'. Its always better have more headroom than clipping.

Audacity's amplify effect will actually increase the volume to the highest point it can without clipping.

:P cool

Thanks for the help guys, I've got it the best I've can :P

I was actualy about to post a similar question.

Is there anyway to amp the volume in Finale NOTEPAD?

Its SO quiet! I just want to be able to hear it when I'm putting stuff together.

I have the full version of Finale 2007.

The volume pretty much has to be intentional in notepad.

They really don't want you using it. But I really don't have the money to spend on something. If finale wants to stick it to me by having a mute demo then I guess I can stick it to them and pirate one of their other programs.

Like seriously, I either have to plug speakers up to my computer and hold the speakers up to my ear, or run a cable to my PA. The PA works, but it is overkill. I shouldn't have to do that.

The demo of Finale 2007 is probably 3 times louder than notepad. Its redicerous.

MakeMusic are not "sticking it" to anyone with Notepad. It's FREE for god's sake.

If you want one of MM's other programmes, most are available with pretty decent student discounts.

There is also a whole range of MM notation programmes, depending on your needs. If you don't need the full-scale notational abilities of Finale, then you can always try one of the less expensive daughter programmes MM has. I think they start at around $50.

There's no need for advocating piracy (which will not be supported on this forum, anyways).

Also, I would point out that my copy of Notepad 07 runs just as loudly as my copy of Finale 06.

Notepad is a damn good tool for being free.
