Club 9

I'm back from the dead. Or rather, the dark void known as 'no internet connection.'

Anyhow, this is my latest piece, I finished a couple days ago and I need some advice on it. It has more of a swing feel than my other pieces, and this is the first time I've written for solo trumpet.

It's a cool tune, the vibes sound good in a setting like this...

BUT...with this smooth/fusion vibe, the last thing you have, is swing. Perhaps you have 'swing-type' horn shots and ride pattern, but the feel is straight up smooth jazz. The bass line gives it away...

That said, it's still a cool piece...

Yeah, it's still pretty much smooth jazz, but when I got the idea when I saw a movie about a swing club, so I decided that's what the piece would be about. Hence the swing elements and the title 'Club 9.'

Cool Piece :)

i like the style, sounds good, will it have lyrics? maybe some scat?

I was thinking of adding female vocals to the main motive singing "Welcome to Club 9," with the horns over the main motif, but I thought it sounded a bit cheesy.

As for scat, I dunno...Maybe along with a guitar or vibe or piano solo...

All five pieces you had up and especially Take Five were great!

what movie?

the alto solo rocks, too...

...almost as much as if i had played it...

the thing that sets it apart from smooth jazz is that it isn't really smooth... it's more spazzy and empty at parts.

but that's what makes it funky and cool

nice goin.
