Step Back Into the Light

This is the first piece I've uploaded onto the site. Thanks for everyone who checks it out and gives suggestions. I'll put it back up after the competition. Sorry!

I have a question. Why so many instruments? It took me like, half an hour to scroll from the piccolo to the basses. You never use them all at once, and some I don't think played a single note. The score looks more like a huge medieval scroll.

Visuals aside, it sounds pretty good. This music reminds me of a movie score, like it should be in Last of the Mohicans or some adventure movie with vast, beautiful scenery. There are places in the music, however, that are too randomly dissonant for my taste. I really liked where you piled up that huge cluster chord at measure 30, but, for instance, measure 12 seems too dissonant for an otherwise rather peaceful section of music.

Speaking of that section, the two oboes are playing a duet, and the rest of the orchestra is accompanying. I think it sounds odd and bland when both oboes move to the same note in measure 10. It lets me down, musically. When two instruments are mingling, don't waste a voice with unison notes. (it happens again at 14)

But, yes, excellent work. How long have you been composing?

Casey you should really pull this down for a couple reasons,

A.I think it is unfair for you to be getting help from other people for a contest. Its about what YOU can write not what you can come up with and then have help from the community with.

B. If Abbados sees this he will disqualify you.

C. Its spoiling my suprise for when I was gonna listen to it. :toothygrin:

I definitely am not looking to get any pointers for the competition. I just wanted some feedback in case in a future date I'd like to work on it some more. I hope he doesn't disqualify me for wanting feedback, yikes. I didn't even think about how it must have looked. When Abadoss said to send it to him in a private message, I honestly thought (this being my first time uploading anything here) that he meant to send it through a thread. Should I pull it down now that I sent it to him through e mail?

It's all right, easy mistake to make. You could just take it down and email it to Abadoss. Then, when voting starts, you could put it back up to get some feedback.:)

Argh, how do I remove it now that it's up there?
