Can I have permission to review your compositions?

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, I'd like to do some short reviews on your compositions. If you have files at the Yahoo extension and would like me to post a short review of any of them, just give a little "yes" right on this thread, along with any specific pieces you want reviewed.

Yes. Anything that's there, I can't remember what I've got there.

yes. i'm pretty new at this so don't expect anything too masterpieceish.

There is SUPPOSED TO BE a whole big review thing happening at the yahoo extension, at least, me and one other person have been doing reviews and putting them as text files in the reviewees folders. I took a look in your folder Michael a few days a go but there isn't anything in there.

You are most welcome to take part in the review thing beginning and everyone else for that matter. The whole point is that many people have files there for (I suppose) the purpose of others listening to them and so this is an opportunity for everyone to actually do that.

My folder. Hehe, yeah, sorry about that.

I want to review for people but didn't want to give any unwanted reviews. Maybe some people don't want their works reviewed.

Well, they don't have to read them!

Personally, if a composer doesn't want a work reviewing, they should not put it in a place where it can be reviewed! Anyway -what does one do when listening to a piece of music?! One reviews it. In this case, one writes it down! :-p

Go for it -review if you want to. (IMHO)

Two reviews have been posted. More are on the way.

I want you to review my works please

Michael, may i hear some of your music? johnbouz@hotmail.com

Funny how you're all so keen to have someone review your own pieces but not so keen to review others.

Reviewing at the yahoo extension http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ycompose/files/ :

Go into the composer's folder. Click 'Add Text File'. In the filename area include the title of the work you are reviewing - example: "Review - 'Composition'". In the description you may want to add who you are. Write your review in the appropriate area and upload it.

Human nature Rach :-)

I will review everyones works by monday

yes definately please do

Er....Rach, wouldn't it be far easier if we all had one text file in our folders in which our reviews of other people's music is. This way there is only one text file in everyone's folder instead of one for every reviewer in everyone's folder. We only have 20mb of space after all.

I'll be doing the above (post 15) anyway. I'd suggest it's probably best everyone else does too! :-)

John, I don't compose music on the computer (any more), therefore, I have no MIDIs. I know this is going to spark a gigantic argument, but I have to say it anyway. I feel that personally, the computer has stunted my natural growth as a musician. I am using traditional sketch and score pads right now. By February, I will have a couple of my works recorded, and I can post them.

And I'm not about to waste my time transcribing my score pads to MIDI. :)

Rob, I have to disagree with you on this one. People don't want to go searching through everyone's text files to find reviews of their pieces. And txt files take up a very small amount of space, so I wouldn't worry about that.

I'm with Michael. And if we do run out of space, we can start another group.

People can't just review with the email thingy, which is, after all, one of the basic ways of communicating in a yahoo group? If anyone wants to save their reviews that is their own affair, in my opinion.

I have uploaded my review page which can be found at

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ycompose/files/robh%20music/robhreviews.htm

I have uploaded the webpage

with a list of files I will review and have downloaded all the files

to my PC so I can do them at my leisure. When I have done about 5

reviews I will reupload the page with the reviews on. When I have

done all the ones I have downloaded I will check back on this site

and download any music I havn't yet reviewed.

This is the easiest way as far as I'm concerned, instead of having

loads of text files floating about. All my reviews of your music will eventually be on this webpage.

I hope everyone understands my method now...

BTW Michael. You don't have to trawl through to find the file you're looking for as when you are on the webpage you can click ctrl+f and type in either your yahoo ID to find your music reviews or the MIDI file name to find a particular review. It's a very neat and easy method.

I know, I use it all the time. But there are a lot of people that don't.

At the moment, I always use the score pages and write everything out by hand. I've never tried writing by the computer, but I think I'll be getting Cakewalk sometime soon, so I'll give it a try. Writing the stuff by hand can be a real pain, and really slow. But it looks cool to see a handwritten score. :-p

Go ahead, you can review anything in my folder.
