Logic Midi file to Sibelius?

Featured Replies

Hi there, just wondering if anyone has any recommendation on the steps to take to convert a logic 7 session into a midi file (I kind of have few like quantize, merge regions, names, etc.) and then also what settings to put when importing a midid file in sibelius, sometimes works but normally sibelius score is a bit of a mess. Any suggestions?

Do ellaborate:

you're talking about a piano solo, piece (so 1 channel)? or more than 2-3 instruments?

Quantitizing will definately help.

Having different midi tracks for different instruments will also help.

Left and right hands, I'm not sure if it can be done (I think it can in Logic, but not sure since I use a PC)

Tempo changes: Delete them all, to avoid further confusion.

If I remember correctly the midi file should be saved as #1 and not #0 (0 saves everything on 1 channel).

You will need to proofread of course, and you will need to alter hands, beaming, spelling, etc...

hope it helps, if even a little...

Yeah, sorry I should

Thanks for the comment about my site :P

If you have orchestral stuff and have instrument articulations (not program changes), I would expect you to have 30-40 maybe more midi tracks to begin with, and open more than one instance of your sampler.

In this case you maye have midi tracks 1, 2 and 3 in the flutes (legato, vibrato and staccato, for example), unless using keyswitches. Either way if you have more than 1 midi track assigned to the same insturment it would be worth switching ALL flute tracks into channel... 1 for example and so fourth.

Midi has 15 channels (10 (I've done this error before), most probably, or 11, is reserved for percussion...) With 15 midi channels, unless for very complex scores, you should be able to get a full orchestra:

1. Flute

2. Oboe

3. Clarinet

4. Bassoon

5. French Horns

6. Trumpets

7. Trombone

8. Tuba

9. Percussion

10. Harp

11. Violin I

12. Violin II

13. Viola

14. Violoncello

15. Contrabass

You could get away with exporting the full midi file, and not soloing. But if you also have English Horns, Bass Clarinet, Picollo, 2nd and 3rd percussion, choir, etc, then you are definately out of midi tracks to use..
