Japanese Theme

This is meant as kind of the credit theme for the japanese movie I'm working on. I plan on expanding it a lot, this is just an example of what I've got. Like I said before, it is meant as a credit theme, this is why I went ahead and took the liberty to throw in a slight earopean influence. Let me know what you think.

I find this a quite elegant smooth piece with a beautiful melody but not to my ears very Japanese although I must admit I'm not sure what a genuine Japanese "sound" is. An oriental sound (movie cliche) might use a pentatonic scale.

I agree with Euler about it not really sounding in the Japanese style. But, then again, I haven't really heard true Japanese music that I can recall.

I know it sounds like I'm a stickler, and many would argue against me, but do you really feel this piece in 6/8? I would've written it in 3/4, because it just feels like it should've been like that. There are rare instances where it would be 6/8, but it could've been just 3/4 syncopation. In the way you have it, it would be a lot of 6/8 syncopation.

Nice piece, however--very soothing.

This is a simple clarinet duet I wrote years ago which has a somewhat Japanese flavour. The tempo of the Finale playback is too mechanical (and m17 is just wrong for unknown reasons) but perhaps the general style will suggest something of help to you.

It reminds me of something from a haunted tower in one of these pokemon games i played... can feel some japanese theme there,,

Yeah, you're totally right. It is definitely 3/4. I dont know why I didnt catch it before, but thanks, I'll fix that.

I don't use finale (or whatever programs use .mus files) so if you could post a midi version for me please - I could listen to it then.

I think MIDIs would be useful...
