Bach Study #1 in C

Featured Replies

I have been independently studying Bachs music for about a year. I composed this exercise to help me understand the movemnet of melody. In time I hope to compose a whole set of small exercises.

Let me know what you think.

Update:

I changed a couple of things..I thinkit sounds better now...hmm I'll try getting the score up in PDF pretty soon. My goal is to write 88 of these, to help others learn how to compose in a similar style.

yes very Bach-ish. even being so simple, it is nice and effective. keep up!:)

Could you please post a score? Finale's screwing up the midi import.

:)

very good!!!

Yes, I think this is very good too. I a big fan of Bach. I've enjoy playing his piano works. Although, I'm not a very good pianist.

I'm attempting to learn a few of his partitas and sonatas for solo violin. I learning them on both the violin and the classical guitar. I'm doing much better with the guitar as I'm not the world's greatest violinist. In fact, I might actually qualify as the world's worst violinist, but at least I'm try to learn to play the thing. That's better than being a couch potato isn't it?

yes it is!!!

very good again.

It's an excellent pastiche. Around the 30 second mark I heard something that didn't sound particularly Bachian to my ear, but I appreciate you may be grappling with invertible counterpoint. I think very soon we shall be hearing great things of you.

finishing up Bach Study 2...it will be a simple 1st inversion, Dominant 5th progression going down..should be up today or tomorrow

I like this very much. I think you've successfully extracted the qualities of Bach's melodic lines and expressed them in a wonderfully parsimonious fashion. I look forward to hearing your following Bach Studies. Well done!
