  1. I really like the atmosphere you've created with the Titles piece. I wiah itcould have been longer, as I was really enjoying it. The second piece clearly shows that you have a knack for capturing and maintaining the essence of a character, while I don't remember if your depiction fits the character (read the book, bad memory) I still think that you are skilled at staying true to your interpretation of the character. Nice Job!
  2. nope. nor do i get anything saying a popup was blocked either. As far as i know, nothing happens.
  3. I was very moved by the title screen piece, it was so simple, yet very profound. I also liked the other 2 pieces, but I think that the School bell one may not fit the setting, but I don't know the game so I could be wrong. Your usage of pitched percussion is very effective, keep up the good work.
  4. This one in specific: Start Player Takes me to a screen that reads: However, the link does not play the song. whereas this one just brings me to the soundclick homepage: MP3 Player SoundClick This link works just fine: SoundClick song info: My Farm Of Magical Herbs by Guinness - Song info page with free MP3 music downloads
  5. Yeah, I've done that, but its still not working, thats what confuses me. What browser do you use?
  6. Thanks! I'll take your suggestion into consideration. and as far as a live performance goes, it may be a while :whistling:.
  7. This has been bothering me for a while, and hopefully someone else has this problem. When using soundclick a lot of people insist on linking directly to the player, which for me, proves pointless because neither IE nor Firefox wants to open it properly when linked from YC. I have no problems getting to songs from the soundclick site itself. This becomes a problem when people only provide a link directly to the player, rather than the song's page, and no alternative way of listening to the music. Then I can't listen to the music, nor can I offer any sort of constructive criticism. Does anyone else have this problem? Has anyone found a way around browsers being exceptionally stupid? If not, would there be some way to encourage the posting of links to the song's page and/or an alternative listening source (IE midi, finale, etc.)?
  8. The melody and harmonies are very interesting, but as others said it doesn't seem to develop very much until the end. I felt like the piece did'nt know where it was going or what it was doing until the end.
  9. This is one of my assignments given to me by my composition teacher. I was instructed to write a piece in ABA form, with the A sections utilizing different time signatures that change at a 1 to 2 measure interval. The purpose of the assignment was to learn how to use rhythm to make the music sound like the various time signatures it was written in. I'm quite happy with the results, as was my teacher, but I'd like your input as well. The only thing I should have done, in retrospect, is some sort of key change, and that may come in the near future, as there was no simple way to do it without pushing instrument ranges into the impossible. Listen Here: lo-fi URL: Start Player hi-fi URL: Start Player I've attached a score below. You'll need finale 2007 to open the .mus file, I'm working on getting a PDF. Any input you have is welcome! 10. I'd like to hear more about this.
  11. You have created a very unique and interesting peice to listen to. Still not sure what I think of it as far as how much I like or dislike, but I definetly listened to the whole thing. My biggest concern is more of a scoring issue. I have always been told to denote dynamics above the staff when writing for voice, so they don't get in the way of the lyrics. Maybe you were taught differently than I, but it may be something to take into consideration, although I'm not sure how much it'll help, seeing as your vocal staves are close together as it is, and moving dynamics to the top may just cause a similar problem with the lyrics being intersected by the dynamics for the staff below. Just a thought. Nice work, however.
  12. I just recently started private lessons with Dr. Frank Stemper of Southern Illinois University, and one of the first things he told me about composing is to always finish what you started, even if you hate it or feel that it is not your best. He went on to say that if we never finish anything, we'll learn nothing, and that there is absolutely nothing wrong with finishing an absolutely scrafty piece every so often because it helps you grow as a composer. The best ways to do this are to set deadlines, even if you don't actually need them. He said "If you tell yourself you'll finish 'eventually' you may eventually discover that you're working for years and getting nowhere. Deadlines are good even if you don't need them because you can always improve and revise a finished work." If you never get anything done, you'll have nothing to show for all your hard work. He said it's better to finish something you absolutely hate then to put it off and later have nothing but an unfinished piece. I meet with him once a week, and if he gives me 3 weeks to write a piece, it has to be finished one week before its due, so I have a week to revise it. So far, its been working. I hope this can help some of you out.
  13. This is a really neat fanfare for Wind Ensemble. Free file hosting by Savefile.com
  14. This is a really cool peice using all vocals. Here's how the composer describes it: Steven Bryant - Hummingbrrd
  15. I say why not give it a try in some way shape or form, if it doesn't work out you can always change it until you find something that works. I'm not very experienced, but if theres someone who knows even slightly more than I do, theres something to be gained from it, just because some people may tune others out doesn't mean someone isn't being helped. Being skeptical and wary of change gets people nowhere.
  16. Wow.... I'm done. By the way, you forgot to leave the slimey signature.
  17. Well, I'm a cockroach. And on that note, how the hell do you type on a keyboard? I dictate to a human slave. I keep telling him that I'll protect him from nuclear war. He doesn't know that I'll survive and he won't. You're truly, *trail of poop* the Cockroach.
  18. So I've started lessons with my composition instructor, and our first assignment is to write something for ourselves to play on our own instrument. The only catch is that part or all of the piece has to be played in a non-traditional innovative way (IE a piano player could go inside the piano). I play trumpet, and I wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions. So far I've considered taking the valves out of the horn, and playing that way, or setting it down on a table and tapping on it with straws or pencils. Any thoughts?
  19. The only way you can get away without using voice leading is in atonal or serial music, and I don't think thats the sound you're going for... Voice leading doesn't automatically make it sound classical, theres plenty of other factors involved. Almost all diatonic music uses voice leading. From Classical to modern jazz. Voice leading is only about how you connect chords, not what chords you use, or the overall sound your work creates.
  20. thanks for the clarification
  21. John Powell, anyone?
  22. I'll enter as a competitor. I haven't started anything yet, but once I do is it okay to post the in-progress work for input or is that breaking some sort of rule? I like hearing peoples opinions as i go.
  23. SHARE
  24. I really really like this piece, it is very moving and emotional, it definetly sounds like a part of a farewell suite. Nice job!
  25. I probably will end up cutting parts, depending on what I end up wiriting in. I find it a pain to add instruments to finale, so I'd rather cut them if they're not needed. Thanks for the input though!
