What would music historians call this era?
chodelkovzart replied to Plutokat's topic in Composers' Headquarters
Ambiguous Era? O_O i dont think it really matters, since names like "Classical Era" are not exactly that creative. -
I'm surprised by how many ppl chose Romantic Era. like Mael said, in the shoutbox and stuff, it doesnt seem like there are many ppl who prefer the Romantic Era. but maybe im just too unobservant.

how about E major? i think putting a little bit more emphasis on the dominant major key would totally strengthen your music. -
Waltz in A minor "Chromatic"
chodelkovzart replied to beautifulnoise's topic in Piano Music, Solo Keyboard
wow thats pretty awesome for a FIRST composition! you dont have to follow rules. but since your waltz is super tonal and sorta Chopin-ish, i think you should have more dominant chords in your piece. i didnt even see one dominant chord in your piece. >.< (yes, im a very dominant dominated person.) bar 7 or 17, for example, would be a really nice place to have a dominant chord doing into your tonic chord in the next bar. i noticed you do have a middle section. but i dont think its enough to satisfy a climax-hungry listener like me. hehe..... you should build up your theme more. cus its sorta repetitive right now. you can also switch things up a bit, so that its more than just "right-hand-single-note-melody + left-hand-normal-accompaniment". i also feel that you can make your ending stronger. you can either use a stronger cadence or.....i dont know, do something to make it BOOM. but come to think of it.....lol, nothing i said is really NECESSARY, its just my opinion. :P its nice to hear music from someone my own age. :D  -
dude, your styles awesome. i dont really know what to say about it, but all i can say is that its quite enjoyable to listen to.

"Squishy" and other strange musical adjectives?

what kinds of composing tools do you all use?
chodelkovzart replied to twilexia's topic in Composers' Headquarters
piano, bench, me, and my stuffed animals. -
it's nice, and it's sorta the type of music i like. from 0:23 to 1:13. it's the same chord progression. i know you are building up tension, but three chords played again and again with the same bass line for almost one minute......? O_O use some inversions and substitute some chords with more interesting chords. that way, the tension building can be more effective. and yes, like people have mentioned, i think the right hand should play more than just a melody line through out the whole piece. you should switch it up a bit. other than that, i love some of your harmonic ideas. :D

*is confused as well*
-
O_O good idea.

i disagree. i think its quite nice. it lacks form, but its really nice to listen to. and i dont think "monotonous" is the right word to describe it. i like it, good job. :D

Piano Suite in D minor - 1st Movement Expressivo
chodelkovzart replied to Asmodean's topic in Piano Music, Solo Keyboard
your piece sounds very pleasant, and i enjoy listening to it. :) your melody is very symmetrical and somewhat predictable. try to play around with it a bit. make it fun. :D I feel that your modulation to the dominant major key was quite effective, but it sounds like you are modulating only for the sake of modulating to the dominant key, and it sounds a little bit unnatural. you changed the accompaniment around a bit, but i still think the climax of the piece is a little bit unsatisfying. At 1:50, it was a bit....awkward. O_O i hope you can take these good ideas and develope it. :D -
dont forget to tune. its one of the biggest problems with flute players. and play until the tone sounds good to you. roll the flute in and out, adjust your air streams, try different things, until it works. thats as much as i can help you with....
