  1. Im stuck. I'm writing this Missa Brevis (a kyrie-gloria pair) and have run out of inspiration at pretty much the return of the A section. Any thoughts? Ideas? Advice? Anything would be much appreciated.:D:D MP3 Kyrie (Unfinished).pdf
  2. wow thanks; i'd given up hope that anyone would reply to this thread, but then i check it a month later and BAM! This helps.
  3. Wow... looking at your score scares me! However, it is neat, and i like organised and neat scores. alot. It does work extremely well as a companion piece, as aforementioned, however my view of the watercolour isn't as dark as your music makes it out to be. In saying that, the mystique and depth are definitely there. Very atmospheric and undulating. A nice piece. I like Ravel also, but mainly La Valse and other works of this vein. Your stuff is very different to my style indeed...i am more a fan of excitement and driving pulse etc. I like this work though; very interesting to look at and listen to and lull to.
  4. thanks so much for your comments Rapha
  5. This is a two-part trumpet sonata that ive just written for my friends birthday. It is Spanish inspired (i think because i play classical guitar that this kind of musical idiom is just in-built/ingrained in me now!!). Would really appreciate any trumpeter or pianists comments, as i don't play either (well i play piano, but not well). I wanted the siciliana movement to be slow and languorous, and to contrast really heavily to the dance movement. The siciliana is in Ternery with a coda, and the danza is a rondo. Hope the key and register isn't too hard for the trumpet... Thanks for any comments! MP3 at Soundclick Trumpet Sonata.pdf
  6. This kind of style really appeals to me. b31 is like heaven! also, the sffz chords really worked. The chord after the buildup at b111 was also really nice; the harmonic detours were interesting, and this worked kept my attention all the way through. It helps having real instruments play it as well. Really nice!
  7. i mean like with a fret and string number to avoid confusion. Other than that, it is a nice piece of music!
  8. just as a thought, you might want to notate the guitar harmonics. Interesting way of showing the guitar tuning...Open C tuning? Also, you should probably specify electric guitar if that's what you want. With the flutter tonguing, instead of saying "no flutter", I would give the notes affected tremolo lines, or a line above to show for how long. I think the chord diagrams might help- i normally put tab with a song in a big alternative tuning.
  9. thanks; probably should have searched for this first... oh well

You could listen to the MP3 though - GPO!
  12. Ok, after much much much time spent on revising this, I think it has come a LONG way. The MP3 is from Finale, so GPO! Sounds 10 times better. Also, I made use of a solo violin for some contrast, as well as completely revised the guitar part. The dotted arrow that i've used denotes that the Left hand fingering doesn't change on the guitar; just moves up/down the fretboard via the direction of the arrow. I addressed everything that QcCowboy said (i think!), so i hope its a bit more enjoyable now! N.B. other movements coming soon! MP3 is at this link --> MARCH March (from Spanish Concerto for Oboe and Small Orchestra).pdf
  13. Well, my favourite section was in fact the cadenza. I didn't feel it was too long, and it seemed to sum up the mood and feel of the work nicely. The percussion really helps the disjointedness, and adds a really important element to this piece. The pizz string sections were another favourite, under the solo oboe. Really nice work

cupnoodle:thanks so much! The variations/sections sort of moved organically to each new one, so that's why they are in that order Mr Cosio: I would, but it sounds so bad that i would die. yep.
  15. How do you get harmonics to play back with GPO in Finale (2008)? Especially guitar harmonics??? Please help!!

This i a work i wrote for a competition (didn't win :sadtears:), and is scored for classical guitar (amplified most likely), crotales (or glockenspiel), violin and cello. It is very Glass-influenced; after studying minimalism at school, this kind of arpeggio-based stuff started flowing. It is based on a chord progression; Em - Bm6 - Cmaj7 - Asus2, and revolves around the key rhythmic motif of the triplet and variations on it. The title refers to my inspiration for the piece; I wanted to create a work that was sparse and cold, harmonically and timbrally. I am quite enamoured of this work, and because i plan to use it as part of my folio for my Uni audition, i would really appreciate feedback! (N.B. ignore the wierd guitar slides; stupid finale gliss thing.) Thanks in advance! :D MP3 @ Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire Frost.pdf
  17. I would love to see a score to check out the guitar part! i do love guitar!
  18. Thanks. In case your interested, this question refers to my March from Spanish Concerto. Thanks, thanks, thanks.
  19. If i have a work that includes 3 flutes, and i want to write the parts on the same stave, how do i properly indicate that i want all to play the one notated part, or a certain two to play two notated parts?
  20. Thank you so, SO much qcCowboy! This is the kind of stuff that will really help me develop and grow as a composer. Being relatively inexperienced, i need some guidance on these issues, so i will thoroughly read through your notes and go through my entire score again. I guess my dynamics are a bit wild; probably a side-effect of trying to get different volume levels in sibelius, the stupid program! Will revise them. Btw, i was given advice that i should have the slash notation by my teacher; guess not! I don't really like the look of it anyway. THANKS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! from Bryan
  21. It seems pretty rhythmically stable, as it kind of just flows and bobbs along; some faster passages and silences used for contrast would really help it imo. I like the ensemble though, though some of the timbres don't blend very nicely in some instances. A nice work though!
  22. Thanks. It is a little repetitive, I'll give you that (sonata-form's influence, or my inexperience with it), but I think it has enough interest to sustain attention. Also, I am in a process of going through it again, and revising. Any changes that people think i should make, i will take into consideration! Also, i'm glad you like my marking/terminology. Im kinda moving away from italian because the prompts that i want to give the conducter/performers are more specific than I can find. Also, i think that because Italian won't necessarily be playing it, English seems more logical.

He he! Its pretty funny! I can see how the show would look in my head!!
  24. Yes! Before writing this piece, i just knew that the tierce de picardie would finish the work!!!!!!!!!!
  25. I liked the theme the best, oddly enough. However, this is a little jarring for my tastes, harmonically speaking. However, with the dynamics being interpreted by a performer, i can see it being a really expressive and interesting work. The abrupt stops and juxtaposition of articulations was also another point that i liked. Some of the slower parts were a little tedious, but as i said before, with dynamics it would be a lot more effective. Nice work!
