  1. Well, I thought it was quite a nice piece. I found your flute and harpsichord writing to be the most pleasing, and the harpsichords rhythmic flux worked well. I didn't get much of what the solo violin was playing though, but that was probably just the midi. A great baroque-inspired work!
  2. I would really like some more feedback please...I'm trying to comment on everyone else's works, so i hope you can help me out too!
  3. Its very nice; i see the correlation between it and your style.
  4. Thanks Rolifer. I agree, the sound is quite shocking. I am now putting it onto Finale with GPO; but it will take a while. Once its done, i will put it up.
  5. Try some more dissonance!!!! And some tritone movement.
  6. okay. Will change it! Thanks
  7. Very very nice piece! I liked the way you wrote for the brass, very dreamlike and suited the "space" feel. I also liked the harmonic movement, especially with the semitone stuff at the end of phrases. A very enjoyable listen!
  8. Micheal Nyman, film score to The Piano; best track is called "The Heart Asks Pleasure First". He's a kinda minimalist composer, and a part sort of sounded like this song.
  9. I LOVE "K" and "O" and the pizz before "Q". Seriously awesome work for strings. And that solo violin writing; whoah! You must be so proud of yourself!
  10. Very very nice piece!!! Very atmospheric and uneasy; but not quite my idea of paranoia. The one thing that bugged me though were the cymbal swells. Repetitive and overbearing; i think you could drop them completely. Gongs would be a far better option. Nevertheless, it was enjoyable to listen to, especially when rendered so superbly!
  11. Well! I quite liked the piece, it kept my attention the whole way through. I particularly liked the many tempo/feel changes, and the ascending harmonic movement. Good work!
  12. I totally heard a bit of Nyman in the ostinato piano bit around 1 min of the way through. Very evocative and joyful piece. Nice work!
  13. I actually think this is the best work i've ever heard on this site. This suits my tastes to a "T"! The right kind of rhythmic interest and dissonance is used, and btw i don't think this is avant-garde at all! You do write extremely well for piano; if i tried to write a piece like this, it would be a really boring part. VERY VERY WELL DONE! Hope i can write like you someday. Maybe you could help me with my oboe line in my Spanish Concerto piece if you have some spare time. I really need an oboists feedback.
  14. Short indeed...drums come in/drums leave. Maybe something a little longer would be nice.
  15. Thanks for more comments! I always get excited when i see new posts. About the abrupt mode changes; well, the piece isn't modal, but it does change from D minor to D major abruptly, which represents the change of mood of the text at that point. But your feedback on the soloists part is appreciated david, i do prefer the SATB part. M_is_D: so could i still call it a bass-baritone part then? There is only really one phrase that enters true bass territory, and i would prefer a baritone voice for the part; i consider myself a baritone and i kinda wrote the solo part for me.
  16. I am having trouble with getting a good snare drum sound in Finale 2007, which is really annoying. I am used to Sibelius, and the GPO and synth options in Finale are a little confusing. Please Help!:sadtears:
  17. Here is the revised score, finally. Thanks for everyone's feedback. MP3: Freeze, Freeze Thou Bitter Sky.mp3 Freeze, Freeze Thou Bitter Sky Revised.pdf
  18. nirvana69: i did have a link to an mp3, but deleted it when i accidentally edited my first comment.... my bad. CANNOT BELIEVE that i didnt put that it was d-tuned. how embarrassing....
  19. im also pretty new to finale, so dont expect any help from me! i also wouldn't mind it being a bit longer, with the sections developed a little more
  20. Really quite a nice piece; i enjoyed the layering and dovetailing, and the use of the piano's extremem registers. A lot of light and shade. Well done!
  21. I thought it was quite good! my brother is into making electronic music, so i am used to it. The drum set sounds were a shock! However, i think the bass needs to be fullened up a bit- especially the drum! You can tell you used to write classical stuff; it has all the melodic and harmonic elements!!! Not too sure about the glass harmonica sound though....! maybe doubling the acid-y synth part an octave lower would be nice. A good job though!!! i am dancing right now!
  22. very nice... i am a sucker for layered ostinati!!!! the dissonance was much appreciated, as well as the nice antiphonal moments. Some of the constant quaver rhythms became a little bit underwhelming, but overall, the piece had nice flow and continuity. good job!
  23. Very very nice; much appreciated to see a solo guitar piece worth commenting on! I like the feel, and the sudden changes in mood. Some tempo changes in the midi didnt seem to be in the score; these would help. also, some fingering for maybe b4-5 and b23-4 would be appreciated. The furioso part was nice, but would be extremely difficult at the midi tempo... also the E at fret 12 and the bass F on fret 1 might be hard to reach, maybe put the f an octave up. otherwise, a wonderful little piece that i enjoyed playing along with! (yes, i got my guitar out and had a play)
  24. very nice!!! would love to see a score, but this can definately be played by one guitarist; a lot can be done on the classical guitar!!!! Modern sounding, yet very classically grounded. That guitar sound is quite intriguing though!!!! Can you play this yourself? Great little solo piece imo!
  25. I love your guitar arpeggios! The chord prog is really nice, and very suited to guitar. And yes, every chord from 19 to 23 is impossible...! However, the piece is very beautiful. Maybe a nice harmonic detour/interlude would freshen the piece up. But, after saying that, I think it is great how it is. Can you play the guitar part??
