Finale loudness of different staves.

Featured Replies

I am attempting to make a song on piano where the left hand is much quieter and just plays chords, but it is louder than the right hand so you can't hear the melody, does anyone know how to adjust the volume on different staves in finale 2007?

This is for piano, and loudness adjusters on the left in studio mode don't work.:(

Try setting both hands to different channels.

Doesn't work :(

1. Create a new instrument

2. Set a different channel

3. Adjust volume

Hope this didn't confuse you

I'd like an answer also.

If you set the RH to say f and the LH to p, if you mute one part (or solo) each hand plays back as intended, but when both play the RH volume is what is heard - in this case thumping chords. The piano is one instrument so there is no way to set separate channels for the RH and LH.

A possible work around to have the piano part duplicated and mute the RH in one, the LH in the other also fails as Finale sets both pianos to the same channel.

Ummmm...... no. Sorry but I do exactly that ALL the time. It is easy as all heck to do this. You have two staves, right? One is usually treble clef and usually denoted R.H.. The other is usually bass clef and is usually denoted as L.H.. Two seperate staves.

Create two instruments in the Instrument List (under Window). Set one to channel 1, the other to channel 2. Assign one to the R.H. staff, and the other to the L.H. staff. They are now thoroughly independant, it doesn't matter what patches you assign to them.

Okay - what I didn't see at first is that if you don't change the name in the instrument column, Finale undoes any change in channel numbers to make all instruments with the same name have the same channel number. An error msg from Finale would have been helpful as would having the setup wizard not name both hands as just "piano". Noteworthy does a better job.

Of course, for GPO, you have to create a second piano in Kontakt 2, but I was doing that already.

Thanks for your help.
