I write because I must write :happy:....reason has nothing to do with it, really ;).

er, anyway, learning theory and counterpoint and studying good music will give you tools for composing, nothing else (ah, except inspiration for your own works, for that last one). The better you are at using these tools, the easier a time you'll have getting what you want on paper, and then if it's good enough, in the air (sound ;))! If you just go on emotions, you'll find you'll be striving for something but just can't reach it. In any case, learn, don't be lazy. Listen to Qccowboy, he's got a lot of good stuff to say, and the experience to back it up.
