Moonlight in the window

Featured Replies

Classical thing, composed with FL STudio, applied standart effects.. how do you guys find performers for you pieces?.. Cause I don't play piano at all.. :(

Please, tell me your assosiations with classical composers for this melody. thanx

SoundClick song info: Moonlight in the window by greenminstrey - medieval time, dark age's tunes, gothic, fantasy, celtic folk, flamenko, guitar, recorder, green_minstrey, old times.

I really liked the piece.

The ending, even though I understood it should be abrupt, was too much so in my opinion.

The melody sounded a bit Scarlatti like :w00t:.

The second section was really nice , I liked the ponderous feeling it had.

i enjoyed this piece quite a bit. your melody was fantastic yet kinda predictable. however the little pentatonic sections of it really cought my attention ;). as for the ending, ya it was a little abrupt. maybe you could slow the tempo down some at the end? i felt like that was comin :D anyway, great piece as i did picture a moonlit room while listening

o and as for classical composer associations...hmm cant really point a finger at the moment, but definatly modern and original on your part

Thanks guys! I don't pay much of attention in endings.. I've noticed that it's the general problem of my pieces.. I guess if somebody played this tune, I could give an instruction verbally to him where to slow down a little bit.. because i don't know if it's possible to change a tempo in F.loops. To be honest I don't know what's "pentatonic" btw.. if there is any literature available online about such terms, I'd like to find it.. if somebody knows.

I really was trying to compose "like Tchaikovskiy", because of some of his compositions I've heard first time, recently.. :) so that's why I was asking for comparison :)

pentatonic is a 5 note scale, major pentatonic in C would be c,d,e,g,a...your piece wasnt a pentatonic piece, but i just heard different parts that reminded me of it. hope that helps some ;)

This is a rather nice piece indeed. Very sweet. It goes a bit too fast, for my taste, for such a soft and sweet calm track, in some places, but I guess a real pianist would "bend" some things and make it sound more "right". (notice the "" in both words, right?)

I don't think it actually reminds me of any classical piece really, but it does remind me of a very very old mod I heard 15 years ago or something. Nothing wrong with that though. I think that it is your original music and very well done to you!

The ending is a little fast and suddent thought...

Hi. Another nice piece. I think I liked this one a bit better than your harp piece posted before. If I really wanted to get critical I would say there was a couple of places where you had a few consecutive 5ths in the harmony (left hand?) which in "traditional" music theory is a no-no. If you know where the consecutive 5ths are, maybe try a different arrangement of the same chord in the harmony. eg- you don't always have to stick to the root and 5th note of a chord. And also I have to say I think you are suffering from reverb overkill (same as for the harp piece). I know reverb can add atmosphere, but I really think you overdo it. My 2 cents...

I like the piece, the melody at the beginning is a bit addicting.

Honestly, I don't realy feel like giving it a more... hm... detailed analysis right now.

If you want to send me a midi, I'll try to record it "live" on piano. If you want.

Thatguy, you saved me! Now I'm a pentatonic guru :musicwhistle:

Nicolas, I've heard some of your music recantly and I see that you're making many experiments.. That's why I consider your response valuable for myself, really.. As for "bend" and "right", you're absolutely right, and I'm not so ambitious to "protect the name of my music" :shifty:

Finrod, the bad thing is that I don't really know where these consecutive 5th here.. But I think I understand the idea.. Thank you.. I could never find out that myself actually.. As for a reverb, I think I still don't differenciate when it's enogh.

JMitchem, that would be great! I'll send you my mail by private message and then send you a MIDI :(

This was actually something that I loved! I am not a pianist, nor am I a very learned composer, but this was pretty good. I do not think that your 5ths should be changed. I must say though that I thought that the ending might have been a little abrupt. But it wasn't bad per se.

Your new photo is creeping me out, btw.

Violinfiddler, I'd like to change something with this 5ths but I think I can't.. :w00t: Thank you for listening ;)

JMitchem, it was a fairy tale, I had to get those ears. :)

I listened to it a while ago, and I forgot to comment.

I like it. It runs a bit away from my style though, it borders Bach in some parts and it remains a pleasant theme. Perhaps a bit less repetition would be nicer, but hey, I'm "mr repeat" myself, so... xD

However, it does not correspond with my vision of the moonlight, yours is full of hope, I can sense it. I find it to be a positivist sight of the moon. While to me, the moon is utter melancholy. You do not describe melancholy, you describe serenity. And rather well, might I add.

Cheers!

there is a one good name for a depression, it's mask - the melancholy  I'm tring not to compose depressive things, Berlious.. It's the same with alchohol and drugs, depressive music is a psyhological drug. :w00t: So I'm trying to keep it positive. There are still many emotioonal components available - fear, excitement, passion..

Shows ability and has a rather creative and unique melody, but the figurations and harmonic "shape" got fairly repetitive. This is especially clear about one minute into the piece, and is most clearly heard in the bass notes, which could be varied more both for added texture and harmonic variety. Seems like you play around with the melody a fair bit, I'd like to hear what you can do with harmonic variety. Yes, coherence in a piece is still important, but music is about balance, and the key is to find a way to vary thing enough to maintain interest without mixing it up so much that it becomes overwhelming.

If you take a more structured approach to things in general and follow standard voice-leading conventions a little more closely (some of your voice-leading was a bit awkward), this could become a more involved, possibly much longer piece. I hear it getting louder and more texturally dense around 4:00, and introducing a new-but-related theme.

I typically abhor any sort of excessive reverb, sticking with a sort of "chamber performance" feel instead of a giant concert hall, but this wasn't too bad, and I'm talking about preferences here. Use what you feel is appropriate for the piece... for this piece, it did seem a tiny bit much.

I find the moon to be a symbol of peacefulness. When I see it at night, it is usually on a car trip or in some backyard in the middle of the country, and it makes me wistful... in a positive sense, perhaps sentimental. I was brought up in the country, and living near the city as I do now, it is difficult to see the moon.

me being a fan of Castlevania; (i know, this isnt from castlevania series) but it sounds like it would fit perfect in a "library" setting in a video game.

i evny this piece i wish i can just play something like this out of nowhere late at night, it would be so beautiful.

what key is this in?

Thanks sir Johnatan :P For a such detailed review.. I've found a lot of unfamiliar in your advises, but the main idea is clear.. Somtimes I just don't care to change anything in the melody wich is repetitive, which is surely bad.

Golden Pianist, I don't play piano at all, so it's me who should be envy. :P aghghghgh!! I didn't play Castelvania.. :) and I don't know/didn't care what key it's in.. that's it.. thanx. :)

According to my piano downstairs - which may be off concert pitch, I just got it - the piece begins in the keys of Eb minor and F# major, which are relative.

I have difficulties editing my own music as well, it's very difficult to splice in new material that sounds coherent with the rest of the piece. It wasn't so much the melody as the harmony which was repetitive. By the way, you can usually expect a fairly in-depth review from me, I take it very seriously and hate to give just a simple "I liked it" or "I didn't like it," since I prefer to receive detailed feedback on my own works.
