Ballade #6 in C Minor

Featured Replies

i am blown away

Very well done, You make it all sound so natural, like it was all supposed to be there.

And of course everybody loves this minor sound. Piano can be such a beautiful instrument if you know use it right.

This is digital music. I did not play this, but I programmed the midi to how I would want a pianist to play the piece.

Hi chopin - congratulations for authoring such a beautiful piece! Could you elaborate more on software etc. that you use to generate the sound? I have experimented a little with Sibelius and Garritan Personal Orchestra, but the piano sound is not as good as this.

Wow, Chopin. I daresay this lives up to the name which you have imposed upon yourself. Many bravo's.

I've briefly skimmed the comments made thus far, and I don't have much to add... I didn't see this mentioned anywhere, though, so I'll say it (and forgive me if someone did mention it): The second voice in the right hand at measure 146 should be turned around, in my opinion; have an eight note tied to the half, rather than the half to the eighth as it appears now. Also, you use a simple syncopation in the same second right-hand voice at measure 149, and at first, I wanted to change the first quarter note there into two tied eighth notes, but in retrospect, I don't think that's necessary.

Along the line of simplifying rhythmic complexities... um, jeez... this piece is immensely virtuosic in its demand upon fingering facility, rhythmic bipolarity, and the like... did I understand correctly that the current recording is not a live recording? Ah, shoot, I was so amazed. Anyways, the only other thing I saw was that you seemed to be a little too eager to imply the tuplets without giving a written indication... usually, the simile was obvious, but the first time I glanced at measure 86, I was thrown off. Since you began with the tuplet rhythm offset (the first two sixteenths combined into an eighth), it would have been nice to go ahead and place a triplet symbol there, just for safety. It's honestly nothing big, as anyone would get it on second glance or so, but still... in the interest of nit-picky perfectionism, consider revising just that one spot, and instances like it.

I was highly impacted by this piece, and if I were foolish enough to believe I had the skill to play it, I'd print it out and try to learn it. As it stands, though, this would be -far- beyond my grasp. Your written introduction stated everything perfectly - with that story in mind, I was pulled through the music fluidly and with many exclamations of "Oh, my God!"

It was beatifically astounding. And I've been inspired to go and listen to the rest of your Ballades (in reverse order).

Good luck (and I'd love to hear a live performances, IF that wasn't one...)

You have compositional power!

And the explanation you had for the story of the piece goes very well...glad that soul came to terms with its destiny in the end ;)!
