so here it is!

lol ive been working on this piece for like two years

lol i guess i dont compose too often ;)

heres the finale file if any of you want to see it and also the midi

just a note: at the end there are a couple of random fermatas in the midi file - thats just because finale is terrible at playing your music back correctly

PLEASE COMMENT!!! :D

That was a very nice piece: most of the beginning wasn't quite special, but the Andante part was way better, and the dolcissimo my personal favorite: lovely! (I switched the violin voice to cello because Finale violin sound sounds like a dying cat.) The ending was also awesome: very peaceful and quiet. Me, being very much against atonalism, found your dissonant piano part to be rather interesting: I only didn't get those two bars where the left hand plays a crotchet B and a quaver B a bar later: it got be quite confused.

Anyway, great job: I really hope you write more for the violin!

I liked how it contrasted between such non-pleasing-to-the-ear sections and very pleasant sections. the fact that you did it ver such a long period of time probably explains some of the drastic mood changes, because you most probably left it for months without even looking at it then came back and did a few bars..if you're anything like me that is. In some cases it can be a downfall but sometimes it's good. I think your pieces has an acquired taste. The voilin was very good, but the piano didn't hold the mood as well. Maybe if the piano didn't have as much activity when the violin played? Like at the end.

Keep it up though! Try writing something when you have free time from start to finish, I think you'll find that it makes much more sense, though it may lack contrast if you don't conciously make sure you put in different moods.

Mr. Canzano; it would seem that you consistently smear the line of fact and perception together creating a mess that makes you seem arrogant to others. By no factual basis do you form your accusations and criticism; if it took him 2 years so be it (and the complexity of the piece shows that it would take nearly that long). Unfortuntately, Mr. Canzano, we (you, me, and many others) follow a way of composing which has already past and therefore we have lost a sense of originality in our compositions. We are more basing them on what is past than what is now. I feel that mitche's piece is one of a new style and therefore of much more merit than my own.

Mitche: I do very much like your piece despite the modern setting of it. Though I am not a fan of this style I am very fond of your piece in its applicablility and ability to convey emotions.

well, first of all, thanks so much guys for your comments!!

idk if this helps you feel the piece, but it is meant to be a story of a dolphin which begins in the very calm and flowing environment of its mother, father and relative dolphins - very calm and happy

then it is kinda scared to leave its family - which is showed in the couple measures with the harmonic minor scales.

then it is very active and enjoys the freedom of the wild "outdoors"

soon, it runs into a shark which accounts for the extreme atonality experienced.

the dolphin manages to hide cleverly and the shark fails to catch him. then the dolphin comes out of hiding, and then faints

he wakes up and finds himself surronded by his supportive and caring family and the piece closes happily

note: it could also be considered a dream - where after "leaving the family" it falls asleep and has a nightmare - and the high major 7th chords at the end are him waking up and finding him in a happy relaxing family environnment

hope this helps you all feel the story and the reason why i did what i did in this composition :P

Not bad. The violin had a very lovely melody. It was a shame that the piano part was so complex that it disstracted me from the over all theme. The first thing I would do is change the piano accomp. It needs to be more simple, simple is elegant. Less is more!

By the way, how on earth did you make that glissondo on the violin!? How do you make and arpegiated chord as well. I just got Finale, and when I loaded the music in there it caught my attention.

Interesting....

Canzano.... lol, harsh on some of those comments :D

Schubert, I agree with your comment, very well put :P

Interesting piece Mitche. I didn't really get it until I read your description in the comments of what it was supposed to be about.

Good job :)
