Re-Scoring of Miss Potter Train Scene

Featured Replies

Hello everyone!

This is a piece I wrote as an alternative score to a scene in "Miss Potter." It's from the section where Beatrix is forced to leave with her family for the summer before her marriage... The start of the scene is really just a lament on Beatrix's part, developing into emotion as she waits (and hopes) that her fiance will show up before the train leaves. She thinks she spots him from the train window, but it turns out not to be him. The scene develops as her fiance runs up from the other direction, they share a short conversation and then they kiss for the first (and last) time, (as he dies later on in the film.) Hopefully my piece tells this story.

Enjoy!

Jared

PS

This cue lines up directly after Beatrix and Mr. Warne are talking, (as soon as the boys run in front of the screen.)

Sounds quite nice and quaint, is the clip on youtube do you know so then we could actually see/listen to it in context, the harmony is nice, quite simple but effective.

I like that you have written only for strings, woodwind and piano is it East West your using? You've made it sounds really nice. Could almost be an ITV/BBC Historical Drama!

Thank you! Unfortunately I don't believe that specific scene is on youtube. Maybe it'll pop up someday. : ) Thank you for your comments on the harmony and orchestration, (I use the Finale version of GPO for all of my samples, so far I've been extremely happy with them.)

Once again, thank you.

Jared

It has a sad and reminiscent yet almost playful sound to it... like a kindergarten teacher standing at the doorway to an empty school-house and seeing the ghosts and hearing the disembodied laughter of the students who where there only a short time before. Like remembering happy memories that you're sad are gone.

It's pretty.

Yeah, really like this piece. I've seen the film but can't remember this exact scene. Really like it, and the sounds are very realistic! Must look into Finale someday...

Well done :)

Thank you very much!

O wow. It conveys the emotion excellently. Lovely and painful at the same time.

Thank you! I'm so glad it conveyed the emotions effectively for you. : )
