Finale 2003 keeps moving my palettes

Not a big deal, just mildly irritating... Every once in a while - often when opening a file, Finale 2003 likes to rearrange my palettes.

See figure 1 for my usual/preferred set-up (along the top), and see figure 2 for the palette-shuffle bug in action (some of them jammed against the left side).

Why does it do this? Can I make it stop?

This happens to me too, one of the many reasons I hardly ever compose in Finale anymore, just go from paper to piano. I'll be screwed when I start writing for larger ensembles again :wacko:

It's hardly a reason to stop using it. It's just a minor nuisance, and easily remedied...

Glad to hear other people experience this ... have they fixed it with newer versions?

Not a reason to stop using it alone, but one of many that makes me much slower to work in it than just working on paper.

i get that sometimes when I minimize then maximize the window. You just have to get used to it and hopefully one day it will be solved.

I too experience this when minimizing and maximizing Finale, I use 2002. I haven't had the problem in quite a while, though. It is really quite irritating, though. It would be nice if there was a way to completely lock them from moving.

I do not have such problems I use Finale 2007. Maybe they have fixed the bug in the 2007 version or maybe even earlier.

Random cool tidbit - I just found the option to change the colours/style of your buttons! Fancy. Not sure which versions I like yet.

Do you really need ALL those palettes open at the same time?

I've found with time that I build keyboard shortcuts and end up using those for my most used functions. My workflow also basically only uses one tool at a time.

Mind you, I'm spoiled rotten - I have a very large wide-screen, so one single row of tools at the top is A LOT of tools.

Yeah, keyboard shortcuts would likely be the way to go...BUT, I'm not working with any speedy/midi entry stuff - just mouse clicks. So, my left hand is occupied with the qwerty note-length values, flat, sharp, and all that. I dunno...this is just the way I've ended up doing it, and am too ingrained to change now. :P

It works for me, I like having my most used tools right there...

By the way, Mark and Robin. That the tools move around, is that so annoying? As Michel states you only use one at a time. Hardly a good reason for not using Finale (:thumbsup: Mark)

Not really....just mildly irritating. It's no good if I have to hunt around for them, and then the tools take up a good third of my valuable monitor real-estate...
