Someone write me a marimba solo...

Featured Replies

I think it'd be sweet to collaborate over the internet on something. I'd love to play something written for me, and I'd work on it and get a good recording.

Anyone interested?

If you really need one and no one else steps up, I'd be happy to write you something. I assume you're fairly talented, right?

I am capable of performing quite well; I enjoy it immensely. I am a dual Performance and Composition major at Oklahoma City University, and I think it would be beneficial for the composer to get a pretty darn good recording and for me as well, a commission, of sorts.

Have you ever written for Marimba before?

Oh so you're definitely good then. And yes, I have. :)

Okay cool. Well, if anyone else is interested, go ahead and speak up. Also, I can take several people who are interested, and work on them together. I love playing. :D

Hey how's it going. I'm definitely interested.

Hey. Count me in for sure.

I am very interested, but not sure how much of a help I would be, I don't know very much solo marimba repertoire. The only thing I've ever played is the first Rosauro concerto for marimba. Marimba is my main percussion instrument, but percussion is not my main area. :P

Too bad Marius beat me to this... You're quick, aren't you? :P

So far, three among us who are interested are also working on the indoor percussion ensemble in the Collaborative. Maybe this project could be taken into that forum as well, if privacy isn't a major concern.

I am pretty interested, I am also in the indoor percussion ensemble

what exacly are you looking for in the solo?

I would like something fun to play, fun to listen to, and work on my technique a bit. There's plenty of techniques on the marimba, and I'm down for working out anything. Also, anyone who is interested, I'd be more than happy to perform your work for you.

If you would like to do this, go ahead an PM me so we can individualize each project; I'd like to play to your strengths.

Maybe I'll start writing more for marimba solo now. :P

By the way, did you have in mind for solo marimba by itself, or with an accompaniment of some sort?

  • Author

I'm down with whatever. It'd be cool to get a wide array of styles from you guys, but I'm down with whatever. I think it would be cool to get a piece with accompaniment, or maybe even a concerto...

This looks fun! I'm also in the Indoor Percussion Ensemble... Of course, I know nothing about technique on the Marimba... Oh well, Maybe I'll see what other people come up with and THEN get going on it...?

I could maybe make a definitive post of what the marimba can do.

I'll get on that later today, I have to go run and eat and stuff.

Does your marimba have a pedal, maybe thats a stupid question, but the ones at my school dont so just checking......

  • Author

No.

Vibraphones are the only percussion instrument with a pedal. (I believe.)

Chimes do, and some very special glockenspiels/orchestral bells do, but they also have very extended range, too, and I've never seen one of those in person, must be very rare. Chimes/tubular bells are common, though, but not really a keyboard instrument, per se.

*sigh*

I'm almost tempted to edit that post out. I'm not sure how I could have missed that.

I shouldn't call myself a percussionist. :P

hmm I have an iDea of writing something meditative & mathematical.....

Hey how's it going. I should have a small chunk of this posted in a few days. I'm writing a mallet ensemble marimba concerto.

Timpani has a tuning "pedal"...

:D

Anyways, I'm too busy to write a solo...

Yc needs more performers to actually feel and play the work rather thank hear it alone...

Hey I just posted my piece under the incomplete works section. Let me know what you guys think.
