Compositional exhibition for strings (show off your geniousness)

Overview

OK as of the yesterday the 14th of February in the year 2008, a proposition was made between the members Romanticist (formerly known as Sir Violinist1) and virtual shock.

The proposition was an idea for a composing exhibition if you will, not necessarily a composing competition but a venture in which string players (this includes violin viola cello bass harp, and even the guitar family,) can participate in. If you do not

play an orchestral instrument you may be still admitted but the piece must be written for a string instrument as will be explained later.

Rules

The rules are complex and any suggestion for changing them will be accepted!

1. *Must be composed for violin and piano acc.

2. Must be in baroque concerto form (fast-slow-fast form along with Ritornellos or slow-fast-slow form along with ritarnellos and even a slow-slow-fast or fast-fast-slow form will be accepted (with ritarnellos)

Ritornello= re-occuring themes in a piece played by the acc. instrument (piano)

3. Must be at least 5 minutes in length

4. Must be based off of the main theme "relaxation" all though

you are allowed to make 1 movement based off of separate inspiration depending upon the composer.

5. No more than 20 minutes long

6. though it is not traditional and it may coincide with the definition of the word, the violin may only carry the "ritarnello" theme (reoccuring theme played by the accompanying instrument) outside of the first mov. only once!!!!

7. Theme must be artful as well as colorful

8. Finally you have no more than 4 months to post the composition in a future thread

*It is not necessary but highly liked of you compose for violin with piano accompaniment, though you can compose for double bass, cello viola ex. with (an) accompanying instrument(s)

I would also like to add in this listing all who have already signed up:

1. Virtual shock (February 14, 2008)

2. Romanticist (February 14, 2008)

3. Mael (February 14, 2008)

I would like to join writing a piece for cello solo and string orchestra and continuo (which includes cembalo). This means Solo Cello, Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Continuo (with cembalo).

What exactly is the "relaxation" theme?

based off of the theme of relaxation, compose music inspired by the feeling of relaxation basically

Oh, but of course! ... this might be my inspiration to write my first violin concerto, or viola.... or... *gasp* BASS! Let's see what happens. Maybe I'll make it bass just to be noncomformist, that's how I live my life anyways.

P.S. I think this *should* be in the contests and competitions forum, BTW. :musicwhistle:

Hmm I am wondering if the form can be fast-slow-fast or slow-fast-slow, since many of the earlier baroque forms were slow-fast-slow, and the theme relaxation genarally calls for something slower,
