Any suggestions on good ambient settings for piano solo? This one is not bad but still sounds 'canned'. Maybe I need to upgrade to Eastwest B

March 7, 200818 yr Well I can tell you that you have a very good idea about Classical music- I thought it was something by Beethoven at first! I will say this- it sounds a bit muddy at the beginning. While it may not be the prettiest sound ever, I will say that it isn't necessary to change it. That's it. Very pretty! I'm excited to hear the full thing! Alan
March 7, 200818 yr Author Alan - thanks for the feedback :) I am still trying to figure out good ambient settings for GPO so hopefully the muddy sound will be fixed soon, and hopefully I will have enough willpower to finish the movement.
March 8, 200818 yr it's wonderful really, but is it really you or are you trying to follow Beethoven? assuming you're going to follow the same style throughout, you may end up modulating (very likely to a minor key) seconds before the end of the mp3 (don't have the score to give an exact position but there's a potential cadence in there somewhere) what are your plans for the piece anyway? what direction are you taking it in? BTW it does not sound horribly muddy
March 8, 200818 yr Author talib, thanks for listening to my fragment of a sonata :P I'm not purposefully trying to reproduce Beethoven, but I did borrow a leaf or two from his book, particularly the 'foreshortening'. I don't mind at all if the final result sounds unoriginal, as long as not too derivative. But I'm definitely aiming for a cohesive style throughout. My plan for the movement is nothing spectacular - currently I'm recycling the main motifs in the development section, and following some modulations, it'll go back to home key (hopefully, hehehe). I am hearing a fugato coda in my head, but I'll know for sure when the writing catches up. As for the other movements though, it's a tad too ambitious for me at this point!
March 9, 200818 yr it is a very good piece. i want to play this too!!! lol...its easier than the etude haha... very beautiful, and yes it sounds like a beethoven piece, however...its definately original. i think a human recording would give your music more justice as well. GPO is wonderful, but like i can hear, it is muddy and the reverb is annoying...i find that turning off reverb altogether gives me satisfaction when using finale...it sounds very fake then, but at least i can hear passages smoothly. another very good piece :) cant wait to see the final product.
