Andante for Flute and Piano

Featured Replies

Andante for Flute and Piano is short duet that I am rather fond of. I hope you like it! Comments and feedback is appreciated!

EDIT: I just notice a couple nasty engraving mistakes in the pdf, but I'll clean those up, so please ignore them for now. :)

It's pretty, but that's A LOT of C major. The piece would be a lot more effective with some chromaticism just for the sake of color, and there is so much more you could do with the flute part. If you aren't yet familiar with it, check out Debussy's Syrinx, you should be able to find a pdf of it on Google, and there are plenty of performances on YouTube (I suggest James Galway). How long have you been writing?

About a year now, but seriously, only about half a year.

Thanks for your comments!

Half a year? Well then, you're off to a good start I must say! You should really listen to as much music as you can and *study theory* if you haven't started that already, that is if you're serious about composing. Good luck.

I agree. It was very nice. I can't really latch onto themes in many people's pieces, but I could get a real sense of coherency here. Your chord progressions are pretty repetetive, though. I liked it. Very beautiful.

I updated it a little bit and made the flute part a bit more interesting. It would be great if you gave it a listen. Thanks!

This was really beautiful, I enjoyed it thoroughly..at times it seemed a bit abrupt for me..but overall it was a nice piece of music..fit for a wedding infact...keep up the good work.

Thanks! This was one of the earlier pieces that I had composed, so yeah, some of the transitions and stuff are pretty lame. I had been considering revising it and putting some more effort into it. Think I should?

Well ofcourse if you can, the transitions are just about the only things in this piece that I had to complain about...the melody itself was superb, so you need little or no work there. So if you can revise I'd say shoot for it.

btw, not to be a nuisance, but whatever happened to your piano concerto?

It is still in progress. :) I am being a bit of a perfectionist about it, so I keep editing and re-editing it. I have one movement that I am very pleased about, but keep editing, and another movement which is almost done, but needs better orchestration and transitions. So its coming along, but I don't want to post it until I'm really happy with it. When I'm completely happy with those movements, I might post them. :D

Cool, I'll be looking out for them if you decide topost

I love all of it, except for when it goes down chromatically. Also, when it goes into the very strong part in the end, maybe a simple key change to G might work.

Very Nice!

It's nice, there are ideas but - for me - too much

I thought that it was a lovely piece.

I think that some of the transitions were a bit off, but that's been covered so I won't say any more on that.

I also think that the tremolo at the end doesn't really suit the overall atmosphere of the piece, but if that's what you want, then thus it is :)

In general, I thought it was nice and I can really see why you are fond of it.

Keep it up,

Lex.
