couple of pieces

Featured Replies

i've been sick for almost whole week, fever and coughing my lungs out, and worked on couple of pieces.

the first one - 'burning lights' is a 'painting' like music, burning fire producing light in different figures - painful, sunshine light, light of hope, blindening light.

its darkness sheds light on the lights. burning and fire is mono, while lights are plural.

the second one - 'chasing on the staircase' is like a musical game. children running up and down the staircase. catching each other, mixing up. its my 'music for children'. playful and rigorous, pointless and meaningful. joyful, in the end.

Hi Pliorious. this is definately very original stuff you've done here. And after listening to the last piece you posted I assumed you were only just a techno junkie!

Burning lights sounds like ambient music from hell!! Very dark and the theme of burning fire describes it pretty well. It kinda of reminds me of an early song by Pink Floyd called "Saucerful of Secrets" (from about 1971 I think), but with more distortion... Did you improvise parts of this? Or did you program the whole lot using a piano roll? I imagine that you were fiddling around with a lot of synths and plug-in effects anyhow.

...Staircase - well I didn't enjoy this one quite as much but it is still pretty good. I can imagine it maybe being used with a children's cartoon or short film. I like the changes that come in around 3:00... In a way this one is a bit like a Bartok piece I used to play on piano I think it was called "Diary of a Fly".

Keep them coming. Maybe you should be sick more often!

thanks, finrod, i'm not a techno junkie in any sense, i even started my whole musical enterprise with playing long live improvisations on rebirth, i spent my 1999 (think?) new years night just staying at home and playing. it just happens that i do love hardcore music as well as so many other (musical) things. maybe because i spent some summers with friends (may one of them rest in peace now) (both of them elder than me) who'd come to my house and sodomize my soul with megadeath, slayer or anthrax music. and eventually we'd go out in the woods, making reversed crosses and breaking into peoples garden boxes. well, it just gave some more thrilling experience to me than being your average kid playing with cars (i was tahta at the same time as well). they even had girlfriends, you see. so i had to stick with them and record megadeath to cassettes instead of doing homework :) well, enough of that.

as to the first piece - i didn't use any synths, all are acoustic sounds effected electronicaly - cello, violin, trumpet, horn - and layered properly. plus i create note patterns and then use them as seperate sound files, in that way you can get some microtonal sounds and odd moves.

as for the second - well, my sister was the first one to hear it (she's 22) and said it's like balls falling down and climbing up the whirling staircases. chasing each other. it's a very structured/simple starting piece and it goes by me inserting gaps between patterns, so they let the 'sound runs' interchange, mix up more. then i use some cutting, just to stop them rolling :) for i felt i could go on with this forever, letting more children, balls (instruments) into the game. ah, but i didn't want to make such a funny music last for 10+ minutes. it didn't seem fair.

well, thanks for listening and comments.

i'm still sick :)))
