Rain Dance

Featured Replies

Here is a piece I composed for the piano last year...for my Grade 12 Music Composition project. It is only a minute long, but thats the point...The rain in australia is so short, that its over before you even realise it starts.

So, Im not going to change it, just have a listen and tell me what you think...perhaps when i have become a master of composition 10 years from now, i may come back and revise this work...but until then...here is a midi and a pdf.

I love the playful introduction to this piece. This completely reminds me of rain totally, with the repeated "plunks" of the bassline. The theme is very nice and I really like your characteristically pianish bassline. The use of triplets as a "lazy" feel was excellent. Your use of chromaticism near the end was... confusing.. but i suppose some aspects of rain are confusing too. The change of feel at :42 was also a little.. confusing, but I think that it was justifiable overall.

Great piece! I loved listening to it!

Always happy to review a fellow Aussie's work. :) Do you mean music grade 12 or school grade 12? I didn't know there was a music grade 12. Overall, very cool piece. and appropriate for the theme too. I really liked the louder section from bar 23 onwards, but the whole piece was good.

thanks for your comments (you too Maelstrom)...

Yea, i meant grade 12 school lol...I managed to Fight for an A+ in that assignment (was the last one). One of my close guy friends was in the class with me...and we were neck and neck with who would come out as the highest music student...i beat him by 'one point'...stupid points systems lol...but haha, talk about pressure to beat him lol.

Anyways...thanks :) YAY...go australia!

Ahh! hey goodridge!

Great piece! I love it. Its simple, yet so enjoyable. The introduction was so quiet and really gave us the back drop for the rest of the "variations". My favorite part was mes. 19. So great. One thing I must say that you did very well, was the keeping it raining, and at the same time, i know dancers at school, that could easily choreograph a dance to it no problem. This is because it keeps a very dance meter through out.

Overall really enjoyable! Great work.

Scott.
