My Fragile Software Situation, Good Audio Programs???

Hey everyone, I need some advice.

My current software situation is pretty fragile because I only have 256 MB RAM.

I am using GPO to hear my compositions. The way I have to do it is to type up ONE INSTRUMENT at a time on Fruity Loops, then export it as an mp3.

Here's where I'm stuck. I have been using Audacity to align all my mp3s and export them as one big mp3, exporting, exporting, exporting as I go.

But, I've noticed that the more exporting I do, Audacity seems to slow down the piece, which means that the rest of the mp3s don't fit so well.

Anyone know a better audio program that might not result in this problem?

(One thing I didn't do that I will try tomorrow is to add only one mp3 every time I export, I was doing a few at a time today, hmmmm...)

Try using WAV files for everything, instead of MP3s, if you have the hard disk space. You'll get better audio quality, and since WAV is a very simple format, it's pretty unlikely that you'll encounter any problems like having the speed change.

Also, you could use Fruity Loops to mix your tracks. After you've made all of your audio files, open up a new Fruity Loops document, import all of the files as audio clips, and line them up in the sequencer. You might not have the RAM to do that, though; I don't know. It's worth a try.

Or, you could just buy more RAM. It's pretty cheap these days.

how short are you for cash, because really to upgrade a computer these days (especially RAM), won't cost that much...

I agree with finrod, I've expanded my laptop from 256MB to 2GB a little while back, and that solves a lot of issues. Of course, it's not cheap, but it's less expensive than buying a completely new machine. This may not be the answer you're looking for, but if nothing else you're trying works, this may be your only other option.
