Various Works for Orchestra

Featured Replies

Hello. I'm a student (going to be a sophomore in high school after this summer) and have been messing around with composing a bit (a lot, actually, as of late), and was really hoping to get some feedback on my work. I'm posting some of my work for orchestra from the last couple of months, and, if you have the time, I would be much obliged if you could take a look and tell me what you think... give me suggestions as to what to work on, etc.

If you don't have time/don't want to look at them all, I'd say that the three that are probably my best of the set are the Rondo, the 2/4 piece in Bb Major, and possibly 'Returning'. Of course, the 3/4 Bb major piece is another one that I rather like... as is the 3/4 G major, though not so much.... Heck, just take your pick, listen to it/look at the score, and give me some feedback if you have the time.

Thanks!

Also, if you want the finale files, I have them as well.

Anyhow, here they are.

(note that the MP3s are rather lousy beefed up MIDIs... they sound rather... robotic... not to mention that they goofed up the dynamics rather miserably in spots)

Edit: The piece that I would really like looked at is the Rondo, as it is my most recent piece.

(note that the Rondo piece is not a complete work: I am yet to work in any dynamics. However, I do consider it my best effort to date at an orchestral work)

Thanks in advance to anybody who reads this, more thanks to anyone who listens to/looks at anything, and even more thanks to anyone who criticizes!

I listened to the Rondo. Quite nice. The harmonies are lush, and melodically this piece remains an enjoyable listen throughout its entire duration. The instrumentation suits the music very well - or rather, the music makes great use of the minimal instrumentation.

Good job. :)

Hi Ian_Boys,

When I listen to your Rondo, I really think that your piece would fit in perfectly in Sid Meiers "Civilization".

Thanks!

So should I just focus mostly on expanding my ideas and honing my skills in general, or are there any specific areas that are weak points that I should focus on?

And @ Fredrik.

Haha... think I should contact ol' Sid about the inevitable Civilization V? :P

Hi Ian_Boys,

You should definetely contact old Sid! Try = 50% winning:O

The Rondo is charming music for Settlers or Civilization 1... or Colonization... I remember all the hours in the past that I spent playing those fun games!

Fred

I definitely see the Civilization connection there, but it's a lot more dense than their usual music.
