Morceau - for pianoforte & violin.

Featured Replies

For unimportant reasons I decided to write a piece tonight for piano and violin. It took about two hours, so I'm pretty pleased with what it is for the time it took.

Yes, it has imperfections, but nothing too terrible.

Anyway, the point of this is for it to be enjoyed!

Enjoy!

Let me know what you think,

Thanks! :)

Really enjoyed the piece. :)

I'm not very well versed in the impressionistic style (which is what I felt from listening), but I could truly get a grasp of coherency and structure, which is necessary in all pieces. I thought that the piano part was interesting vertically, but not so much horizontally, and the violin part could have benefited with increased movement, but that is just my opinion.

Great work!

Wow, very nice. I liked how you were using a sort of 'free triadic' technique. Right when I'd be thinking it was a bit Wagnerian, I thought 'no maybe Impressionist", then 'maybe fit well in film', the no again...a great synthesis you had going on. My one slight criticism or personal preference is just in harmonic spacing. The open voicing in the bass with the closed voicing in the right hand got a bit redunant for me. One last thing, I'm violinist myself, and want to give you the OK on playability, would work out fine. Great work!

Thanks for listening guys. I'm very glad you enjoyed it!

Maelstrom - yeah, there really could be more horizontal interest, but I suppose it's just not that type of piece. And yes, a little increased movement in the violin part would break up the monotony of the crotchets - I might change a little for that reason.

Thanks, Steve - I had hoped the harmony would be coherent. As for spacing, I'll give that a look over today.

Thanks all. :)

It's a nice little piece daniel, very short and airy..I just thought that some of the violin notes where held a bit long. But anyway good job.

Thanks to Tom

A very nice piece but I totally agree with Romanticist...try and add some movement to the piece it will add a whole lot more colour etc... and I think this could work...but... Sobresaliente !

Thanks for listening.

Yes, that's one of the problems with this piece (but also a reason for its consistency) - there is fairly constant crotchet movement throughout. I broke that up once or twice, but there's only so much you can do in such a short piece.

Maybe I should add other movements, and it might work better as a contrast within a suite. Thoughts?

By the way, Meadbh, what part of Ireland are you from? (If you don't mind my asking.)

Thanks. :)
