Six Steel Drum Tunes

Featured Replies

These are six tunes I wrote for my Steel Drum combo to play. Usually it's a quartet- one Lead, one Double, one Bass, and a Drumset. We have a larger band at OCU and so some of these have another Double part. For kicks, I'm also including an arrangement of Brand New Colony, by the Postal Service. I only finished it tonight, so there's a lot to do on it still.

My six tunes aren't formally complex - they mostly exist as filler in sets, for open solos and the like, so we can reach our time mark, so I dont' put a lot into the form. I just wanted to make cool groovy heads and B sections and then solo.

Thoughts are welcome.

As someone who constantly scallopes about people not posting scores, you'd think I would have posted some myself.

I love 25 years and Cha-Cha Chalupa. These kind of music are really unusual (well for my ears it is). I think I'll use more of steel drums from now on, they sound awesome. I've always wanted to use them but have no idea how to use them effectively. Thankfully now I'll have some examples. Downloading the score as we speak for studying. Do write more! And do you have any videos of your quartet playing live? Should be awesome. :)

Nice to hear some Caribbean music!
