Thomas Newman's WALL-E soundtrack

Featured Replies

Surprisingly moving movie with a matching soundtrack. "Define Dancing" is my personal favourite from it, and has inspired me to try my hand at (imaginative) "film music" for the first time.

I like Newman's work because he's always got nice and quirky rhythmic figures in his music, but I didn't find Wall-E's score to be particularly memorable. It was very effective in-film and I loved the movie itself, but I can't say that it's one of my favourite albums for listening to outside of the movie context.

Nevertheless, it's a fun little score and if it's inspired you to try new things then obviously it's done it's job and then some!

I find it rather interesting he introduced guitar or guitarlike sounds for sci-fi settings. The scene where Wall-E sneaks in with the shuttle into the mother ship.

I found it quirky and interesting, especially the pizzicato rhythms. His pieces in the movie are clean and effective. I've got a copy of the soundtrack, haven't finished listening to it yet though. "Define Dancing" is great. I also liked "First Date", so very cheesey, cute and lovely at the same time!
