Violin Strumming...

Hey,

So can anyone give me some guidelines for writing chords on violin?

What are the largest playable intervals between each string?

In terms of farthest interval...I wouldn't go above an octave. A good violinist could probably stretch a bit further if they really had to.

Good violinists can do tenths.

I can hardy reach a minor 9th in 1st position. I can BARELY reach a minor 10th in 3rd. I can't reach a major 10th at all until 6th positions. None of these I would be able to tune in the middle of a piece, they're quite a stretch, and a bit painful. My hands aren't tiny either, and I'm used to some stretches from playing piano (I can reach a 10th okay-ly on piano) and occasional attempts at guitar. I'm not a good player, but not all good players have humongous hands, so I find it rather contrieved to say that good violinists can play 10ths.

They can... I'm a kid and I can play them fine in any position. My teacher's hands are small and chubby and he can do it as well. Every violinist learns 10ths.
