August 31, 200817 yr Here's a song I'm very proud of, finally recorded live. I guess this is a sort of 'suburban narrative,' although it doesn't really sound "emo" until those descending minor chords in the chorus..... The guitar solo just so happened to fit in with the horn soli....originally I was gonna scrap one or the other. Kind of Emo Dylan's skatin' down the pristine sidewalk He's gonna find a new friend Converse sneakers and a spiky haircut He's speeding to a bitter end He's gone... Why can't you see he's gone? Chinese noodles and a fortune cookie His fate is all to clear He'll run home to his drunken papa No "How are you, dear?" Too much pain It's not worth the trouble Acid rain Alone in a dark room Nowhere to go Kind of Emo Someone save him from this awful truth From this cold world he knows He's got a razor and up on his desk A mysterious black rose He's done... I guarantee he's done The world is certainly out to nail him His fictional fantasy A disillusioned teen with too much free time That almost sounds like me Dark tear stain On the satin pillow Acid rain Alone in a dark room Nowhere to go Kind of Emo Here's the link: Kind of Emo Questions? Comments? Catharsis? ~Kal
September 6, 200817 yr Lyrics aside, the song sounds like funk from the 70s. Which is not a bad thing. Don't know if that's what you were going for....
October 2, 200817 yr Alright, I really liked that. :D Just when I thought it couldn't get any classier I nearly died of high-class when I heard the chorus. If anything else, I think it'd sound great with some vocal harmony in the chorus. I'm not particularly pleased with the guitar solo but it certainly doesn't detract from the song, it just seems a bit... canned. :\ Incidentally enough, though, it (the piece as a whole) reminded me quite a bit of Steely Dan. But overall: I need to buy the bloody EP.
October 10, 200817 yr Author Thanks, thank you, and thank you, your comments are greatly appreciated... Yeah, the guitar solo was supposed to be a bit longer, and the horn soli was supposed to be afterwards, but something happened, as things always do...I was also trying to get some Mingus-y effects in there (random notes, the talking trumpet, etc.), 'cause Mingus rocks. I'm also not pleased with my meloldica solo, but that 3/4 bar break is killer! Incidentally enough, though, it (the piece as a whole) reminded me quite a bit of Steely Dan. Steely Who? ~Kal
