Mini-Concerto for Cello

Featured Replies

I originally posted this in the Orchestral section, but I feel this is more appropriate. I don't know how to delete my original post...

Hello. My name's Chris. I've been composing for about four years now. I wrote this short concerto three days ago for my friend Amelia. I wanted to write something for orchestra, and she told me, "You should write something with a cello solo!" So I went home, had an unexplained great inspiration, and wrote this in roughly four hours. She loved it so much, as did everyone else who heard it. That's what really made me think I should become a professional composer. I hope you like it too! Also, any critique and constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated. It's accompanied by two violins, a viola, a cello, and a double bass.

I uploaded the score, but it's with PrintMusic 2004. So it's pretty primitive. I want to get a new version soon.

Actually, almost the entire song should be arco. There is supposed to be no pizzicato except during the interludes. I don't like the crappy strings on my midi program, so I made it sound pizzicato instead. Also, I'm very new to my midi program (I just got it last week) and I don't know how to use dynamic markings in anyway whatsoever. The piece is supposed to be very expressive in theory.

I think in should all be pizzicato, but It might be difficult to do that fast. However, it could be done with a plectrum, which could be quite a cool thing to specify on the score. Also, I think the last note (played by the double bass) should be played by the solo cello pizzicato.

PDF please?

I like your mini concerto.I suggest you may want to add bowing to your accompaniment to add more variations.
