The Last Days Of Winter

Here's something different for you. This is a string trio consisting of Mandolin, Acoustic Guitar, and an Upright Bass. It's one of my least rhythmic pieces because I was trying to go for atmosphere more than anything. I think the instrumentation works nicely to create the mood I was going for.

This isn't my best attempt at a recording, but I had to get it done, and midi sounds don't do it justice at all. My bass pick-up kinda blows, so sorry about the quality of my bass tones.

Please tell me what you think of this. I worked hard on writing this one.

You're right--it isn't very rhythmic. However, I do think that the atmospheric quality more than makes up for that. The intonation is a bit off in the bass in the recording, and I think that fixing that will make it sound a lot better. However, the piece sounds great, and it has a very nice feel to it. The 3+3+2 part is the weakest in my opinion, mostly due to how bad the mandolin sounds in the recording. Overall, though, this piece is pretty strong.

Yeah, you're right. I realize now that the bass is pretty off. I think I'm going to re-record the bass on here. I might just do the whole thing over. I'm not really a mandolin player, but I'm the only one anywhere near me that owns one. As for bass, I don't really have an excuse. I guess I was just having a rough day.

Thanks for listening though, I'm glad you liked it.
