"Waltz of the Dead"

Featured Replies

I'm not sure how to start to explain this.. It started off as a optimist-pessimist conversation for one day, and the next, it was just whatever put itself on the staff.

I have to say, I can't read music and have no education in music other than my own ventures with my electric guitar. A friend of mine named it and until that point, I had no idea it would be anything close to a waltz (if it isn't, :whistling: ).

I really cant think of anything to say so... I hope you enjoy about 2 minutes of the musical equivalent of my young nephew's walking.

PLEASE comment. Criticism is expected and praise will be met with shy skepticism.

This piece is actually very good - as I mentioned earlier, I have trouble believing that you have no theory training. I would've liked to see more of a defined form, but it's short enough that it really doesn't need one.

:00-:50 sound a bit like the music from the Sims. After that, I love the psychotic episodes it goes into. The ending is a little weak. I think you could cut everything from measure 90 on out; I like it left a little "unresolved". I think the short length of the piece is one of its strengths.

Problems: Some of those chords are impossible to play. Actually, a lot of them. You'll have to rewrite a lot of these.

Some parts get a little boring, but this isn't a huge issue.

Once you figure out how, add tempo, phrasing, and dynamics.

Well, I can believe you've never had any theory training... based your score. XD

I'm no expert when it comes to making pretty scores but it really is a mess. So a few pointers.

-First off, the key signature should be F Major (One flat)

-Time signature should be 6/8 and not 3/4.

-The notes should all be eighth notes and all in the lower staff since they should all be played by the left hand. I understand that you want the notes to ring out but that is why you indicate a pedal usage.

-Around measure 72, you should really starting using some 8vas. Pianists don't like to read that far off the staff unless they absolutely have to.

-None of that high/low melody crap. No offense but this simply isn't complex enough to be using both. Stick to just one line per staff.

I only bring up these issues because if you ever want to even hope of someone playing your music, you will have to provide a pretty score.

As far as the actual composition goes, it's alright. You write very much like a guitarist. You should work on maybe making the left hand a tad more complicated as it's rather boring as is. And overall, a pianist might reject playing this on the grounds that it's just too easy. I understand you are going for something simple but there are really moments that could use a little more variety. The modulation (?) at the very end was rather interesting and it felt like it was going to be the start of a second theme but then it just ends. You really should continue this or chop off those last few measures because it feels very unresolved as is.

Anyway, considering you have absolutely no theory experience and are a guitarist (a notable handicap to get over. I know being one myself. XD) this isn't bad. It has potential.

You know, playing two notes at a times isn't very nice. Perhaps you can make is more difficult to play! :)

Not bad...:) I too have trouble believing that you have no theory training...Well, other than the score.. and the weak ending...and... and.. ... lol.. just joking... :)
