EW's Complete Classical Collection 2nd Edition

Featured Replies

Okay, so I've been looking at the EWQL libraries, and I was considering buying Silver or Gold. Then I saw the Complete Classical Collection 2nd Edition. It seems to be like EWQL Gold, only with a choir. Does anyone have any experience with this? Should I get it, or should I get silver or gold?

Also, I was told that EWQL sound libraries only works with Finale 2009. Is this true? Does Complete Classical Collection 2nd Edition only work with 2009, also?

Get Gold, forget the Classical Collection.

It's basically a large set of pre-built musical building blocks, plus a fairly decent choral section, and mediocre instrumental samples. It's nice to have it all in one happy package, but the quality and versatility doesn't compare to Gold in any favourable way, as far as I'm concerned.

If you're serious about your work and are picky about being able to really craft and customize your instruments, then go for Gold and, if you can afford it, the XP too because it's really worth it.

Just my two cents.

Okay! Thanks for the help. They didn't really have a good amount of information as to what the Classical Collection actually was. I can probably survive without a choir, I guess.....

Anyone know anything about how it works with Finale?

Classical Collection works within Finale just like any other VST. And that thing you heard about EW only working on 2009 is NOT true. I've successfully used EW libraries with Finale since 2007, I believe. So no worries there. :)

I'm with Marius on this one. Buy Gold. Or you can also buy both :P

After having a look at it, I'm kinda interested myself. Having EWQL Gold, I'm sure the Peter Siedlaczek stuff will come in handy. The Orchestral Colours, sound VERY awesome. I even hear some dance stuff in there. But since you're using it for Finale, Gold is better.

Okay, I guess I'll just get gold. Actually, I may only be able to get Silver with my Chanukah money....

Since I'm using it in finale, will I still be able to use finale's dynamics and articulations on the EWQLSO libraries even if Silver doesn't come with them?

Aim for Gold, even if you wait on the XP for later. With the current pricing reductions on Sounds Online, you should be able to get it nice and cheap.

If you get Silver, you'll probably be able to use most of Finale's available articulations, but you might have to approximate with some. Remember, you won't be loading one patch per instrument and having the articulation markings affect the playback properly...each articulation is a different instrument patch. Makes it very annoying to keep your score looking clean within Finale, which is why I usually make one "playback" score and one "printing" one.

Or I just bypass Finale entirely and use Logic, since I hardly ever need a score for my work. :P

Hmm....so if I wanted to make it sound good in finale I would have to upload the articulations individually? There's no keyswitch?

Oh of course, you can use KS patches too, but sometimes if you only need 2 articulations and the KS has 4, then it makes no sense to load double the data you actually need to use...it's just not practical from a resource efficiency viewpoint.

If you want to have a nice orchestral sound with Finale without loading up too many instances of the same instrument, try Bandstand. Or just buy Finale and use it with the Garritan Instruments that comes along with it. These 2 don't sound as good as Gold though.

And don'e buy Silver! The demos sound wonderful, but it sucks in real life. No release trails, sounds artificial.

Would I be able to just buy silver now and then upgrade to gold later? If I did that, wouldn't I be able to get both Silver's choir and Gold's orchestra?
