"In the Beginning"

Featured Replies

First post! Well, minus my introduction one. Anyway, this is a piece I wrote actually a couple years ago. It's sort of a short orchestral suite that was semi-inspired by the story of creation. Anyway, hope you all enjoy it and certainly feel free to critique!

Song Link SoundClick artist: AlbinoFox - Orchestral Soundtracks

PS. - I've also got more songs posted out there at Soundclick, so feel free to take a listen to any of those too! Most of that work is geared towards soundtracks for video games.

The harmonic stucture is so effective.

There was just a little bit of dissonance to make the harmonies interesting,

and it definitely helped some sections resolve smoothly into the next.

I also like how you incorperated a bunch of different styles;

it works extremly well with this piece.

This is awesome!

Jake

Welcome To YC.

Thanks for posting the MP3.

I enjoyed listening to this. It is obvious you have some talent.

If you want more people here to comment on your music, it always helps to comment on some of theirs. Some will return the favor, (as it should be) while others are either too busy or too lame to take the few seconds required to type in a response. In time you will learn who will return the favor and who will not.

Hope that helps

Ron

rolifer: You make a very valid point! Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I definitely agree that learning and networking are not one-way streets! Thanks for the comment and I'm glad you enjoyed the piece.

It sounds very Legend-of-Zelda-esque for some reason. Even so, good job!

Hehe. I've actually never played through any of the Zelda games, though I'm slightly familiar with some of the music. Thanks for the comment!

Very beautiful. I really enjoyed this piece. Great use of texture and melody!

I did enjoy it too, a very well done composition! and also I loved the whole feeling, and I really would like to write something similar. It is very fascinating.

I also liked Imp Rex Encounter. Was really good! you're a really good composer!

Great Jake! Very well orchestrated and the harmonic voicing is superb!

At 2:22 min into the piece I especially noticed the tamburin, which was a very good idea!

Keep up with the good work!

Fred

This piece is absolutely gorgeous! I absolutely love the orchestration and harmonic voicings. Superb work, can't wait to hear more!

Heya!

I absolutely adored this piece, thanks for sharing! It's reminiscent of several soundtracks, but it's filtered through some concert band styles in terms of the orchestration and harmonies. I'm very fond of the way you handled and developed the thematic material; it's tasteful and has a good sense of pacing. You didn't rush to say everything you had to say, in other words.

Not too much else to critique about it, it's very well crafted. Would fit in an old fashioned sort of film score very comfortably. Congrats on a charming work! :)

Lovely piece of music. I am not keen at all on discordance, and it is nice to hear a piece written in the 21st century which has a tune and nice harmonies!

A beautiful and accomplished piece! Some very delicate orchestration which reminded me of some orchestral works of the early 20th century. Nice work.

Whoa, lots of recent posts!

jcharney: Thanks! I'm glad you liked it.

punkitititi:Thanks a lot! I appreciate the listen to Imp Rex Encounter, too.

Fredrik: Thanks, I appreciate the comment!

musicdecomposed: I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm curious (and I may sound kind of stupid for asking this), but both you and Fredrik mentioned harmonic voicing. I can concoct a general idea of what that means, but could someone clarify specifically? I see a lot of music theory terms all over the forums and I'd really like to understand what some of them mean. :P

Marius: Hey, thanks for commenting! I am very influenced by a number of different film and video game composers, though I couldn't tell you which ones in particular influenced this particular piece. I've been getting into some Romantic 1800s era stuff lately though, so we'll see what kind of effect that has. Anyway, I'm really glad you enjoyed, and thanks again for listening!

anthonyzerillocomposer: Thanks!

cheese messiah: Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked it.

To sum all these up, Thanks everyone who's commented so far! I appreciate you all taking the time to give my work a listen and I'll certainly be going around and listening to your pieces.

Very-very good! I enjoyed a lot. Keep on composing!:D

PDF Score please!

Excellent Piece!

Norby: Thanks a lot! I appreciate the listen.

Justin Tokke: I would post a PDF score, but unfortunately the score itself is a hot mess and really ugly to try and look through. Since I compose mostly by ear, I haven't really spent much time on making clean, legible scores (plus I'm having a wonderful time trying to get Finale to do what I'd like it to do). But I'll try to post a score along with my next one!

SaXoPhoNe-AIT: Glad you liked it! Thanks!
