Polka Nr. 5 in F minor

Featured Replies

Hi!

I thought that I should put one of my complete pieces here, and I found this piece from 2008. I don't know if it's very good , but I thought that it was interesting...

So here!

It makes some rather odd modulations from F minor to A major, then back, and I'm not sure about the middle section.

Happy Valentines Day!!!

First of all, i greatly enjoyed the begining, but it seems as if you lost interest in it and just kind of ended it. You could have done a little more in my opinion.

the chords at :55, were a little... i don't know.. they came off a tad abrassive, but that could just be the midi talking.

Other than the chords and the a abrupt ending, it was pretty good.

good job

I already commented to you in the shoutbox, but I'll give this piece a bump for publicity while thinking of a more detailed review...eventually...it's on my to-do list!

I was quite intrigued when I saw this thread. I'm glad you have presented a complete piece to us! :)

It's very nice, a graceful first theme, with a bouncy and joyous second part.

The modulations in mm. 22-25 are very clever, although the modulation back was a little bit odd.

Overall, a nice little piece, if a bit short.

Nice job :)

Thank you, Q and Edgar!

Hey, sorry for the delay :P

Alright, NO YOUR PIECE ISN'T BAD

I wish I could write like this, but I suck at life, so I can't. Although your harmony is pretty basic, it adds to the lightness and fluffiness of the piece, so I really can't complain much. Before the first repeat, though, I think you should cadence off the phrase instead of having the repeat be the cadence. It just gives it consistency, I think. I like your modulations from 19 to 24... very colorful, but if you took a little bit more time to do them, then it would sound better I think. From 24 to 26, The chromatic descent of chords isn't as common practice as the rest, so it sounds out of place. If you really wanted to modulate, you should try some Chromatic Mediant shifts (i.e., Dominant - Major Chromatic mediant). In C major, this would be a G major chord to an E major chord.

Now, 24 through 30, the chords seem to just be filler modulation. Perhaps you can do some development in those bars? Some motif sequencing? Counterpoint? Retrograde? Inversion? Many things you can do to fill up that space. 30 to 36, perhaps you can make the harmony a bit more interesting or add some counterpoint. Same advice to fill 38 through 44.

Overall, for the brevity of the piece, I'd say you can get away with those basic harmonies and only having one voice. If you were to write a longer piece, I'd use some more adventurous harmonies. I enjoyed listening to it, though. Light and fluffy :)

Keep writing!
