Finale 2009 - Reverb Problem

Featured Replies

Okay, so I received my copy of Finale 2008 today. :D!

However, when using the GPO, there's just way too much reverb. I tried going to the mixer, and I turned the reverb dial down to zero, but it didn't help at all. Any way to fix this?

& also, just noticed: in my strings sections (I'm using Violin Players 1, 2, Viola 1, Cello 1 and Bass 1), effects like tremolo and pizz aren't working?

Welcome to the world of Finale. Who says hundreds of dollars can't buy broken dreams?

I too have difficulty getting string effects to work sometimes in the playback - I can't figure out why it sometimes does and doesn't work. For example, recently I had a score in which pizz worked for all the strings except the violas. Maybe Finale is just trying to prep us for real life situations.

if you use the preset effects and have Human Playback turned on, they work fine.

Pizzicato? Select the Expression tool, hold down the 'P' key, and click where you want to put it. Arco? Select the Expression tool, hold down the 'O' key, and click where you want to put it. Tremolo? Select the Articulation tool, hold down the '8' key, and click the note you want to add it to.

It's really very simple.

These things I have done. The markings appear in the score, just not in the playback. I have HP on, and it does work with certain tracks. The only solution I have found is to delete the staff and replace it altogether.

Try adding a silent measure at the front of the file. Sometimes HP needs a beat to load everything up correctly.

I will try it.

See, but this is one of my "beefs" with Finale. We shouldn't have to do that.

I've been using Finale for nearly 10 years, and there have always been various issues with playback that made it altogether necessary for me to have one file for printing and another for playback. No sooner do they do away with one when another crops up.

I've been told that I expect too much from what is, first and foremost, a notation program; that I should really be doing my playback through another program specifically designed for that purpose. Considering how much I paid for Finale initially and what each upgrade costs, I don't see it that way. Once I've gone to the trouble of notating something, the last thing I need is to try to wrangle what I want played back out of a completely different software.

I don't expect human-like artistic perfection from Finale's playback, but I think I have a right to expect that when I notate a pizzicato correcty, that it will be played as a pizzicato; and when I have a dynamic marked at the beginning of a section between two repeats, that the dynamic will be observed both times the section is played. Every time, in every instance. I don't think that's too much to ask.

That's pretty quotable. :D

Not sure if you ever solved this problem, BUT...

Midi/Audio > Instrument Setup > VST Instruments > Next to the "Ambience Reverb on the bottom, click Edit > Mess with the sliders that say "Wet" and "Dry" Make the recording more dry and less wet.
