Allegro for String Trio in A minor

Featured Replies

I have not posted on Young Composers in a very long time. However, I finished a composition last fall that I am told shows promise. It is for string trio (that is, violin, viola, and cello), and I first thought it would be a first movement to a work of three or four movements. I gave up on the idea; I am very inexperienced in composing and it was nice to have completed something of reasonable quality.

This is by no means a "great work" or an "opus number." I do enjoy composition though, although doing schoolwork, and practicing playing music impedes, and the difficulty that comes with inexperience prevents a large output. Judge this piece as you will.

I had some trouble uploading the file...I didn't realize you couldn't upload wav files. Here's a midi. I can upload the Finale file if anyone wants it.

I'm listening to it now, I enjoy it a lot so far, but a Finale file would be cool.

I would also like to follow it in a finale file. There's a lot of interesting material in there I would really like to look at.

or a pdf for us sibelius users?

I can't figure out how to save a finale file as a pdf, but here's the finale file.

I think the biggest problem with this composition is that you use way to much of the opening idea. After hearing for 2 mins + it starts to get boring. It's a nice idea, but overuse of that single idea will make it really dull. So some real new content would be really nice to hear.

It's quite refreshing to hear such a jolly piece in a minor key! I like the contrapuntal treatment and the general craftmanship that has gone into this piece but I must agree with Morgri that the one main theme tends to overstay its welcome. Maybe you could incorporate a contrasting second subject into a revised version of this work.

Cheers,

John.

i agree with the others here. the first idea is good but it gets boring after a while. but you have done a nice work with the voices under the melody. sounds really good.

Hey very nice music, i like it!

I agree with the comments made. This piece ended longer than it should be. Need better organisation and it would certain be much better.
