Going Home -idea

Featured Replies

This is just an idea i drummed out this afternoon for a short film where the protagonist is traveling back home. I don't usually share works in progress but i thought i could get some feedback.

The sequencing is really messy right now and i've had to add multiple parts on some voices as my home studio is a little stingy on the DSP.

It's kind of boring but i was trying to see how many melodies i could interweave and make a painfully basic progression sound interesting.

Hey,

Great job making a basic progression sound interesting. Great production too--definitely hear you on the oboe though--it sounds great once its sort of backgrounded by the whole mix, but when it first comes in it sounds distinctly like a sample.

I was just waiting to hear that lydian 4 on the IV chord though but it never came--that's just me though, and you may have purposely been trying to avoid that sound which could be portrayed as a bit cliche in this context. Really enjoyed it though--good exercise to constrain yourself to simple harmony.

Thanks a lot Erick for you feedback, it helped. I really didn't want to bump this thread until i had a good new mix but wanted to thank you. It's sounding a lot better now...i scrapped the oboe, it was sounding very obnoxious lol. The lydian 4 on the IV doesn't really fit the scene all that well imo but it's a wicked sound.

good job on the piano, to my personal taste i'd love the piano to continue develop without the add symphony, to me it sounded too hallmark and maybe abit childish if its not a family film. in overall sound and production very well done.

I always listen to a piece a few times before I comment and it helped a lot with this one.

First off can you use a different place to host your music. zShare has caused my browser to fold a few times. I find that happens a lot with their site. I use boxnet and have never had a problem with them and it is also free.

Whenever someone says either I just threw this together or here is something I did in a couple of hours, after listening to it, I usually want to say to them that it sounds like you threw it together. When I first listened to this, I was leaning in that direction, but you have cleaned it up a lot since then and it sounds much much better.

It still could use a little work, but I am sure you can get it to where you want.

Nicely done

Thanks so much for the tip, Ron. I edited the original post pointing to a Boxnet host page. I apologize for the difficulties you had with ZShare.

It links to a slightly newer mix with new parts and minus the obnoxious oboe. It's slowly coming together but much work to be done indeed.

The J,

I was actually going for a "Disney feel" :p . This is near the end of the film where the protagonist is returning home after many years as a POW. Thanks for the comments.

I just love such smooth music. The mixing is very nice too.

Well done!
