Is it any good?

Featured Replies

Dear musicians

would you be so kind to listen to some of my music.

I was wondering: Is it any good?

It's hard to know by myself. And I don't know if I should continue or not.

I have three pieces:

-homeland

-silverblue

-moonshine

Thanks so much for your feedback.

well, that all depends on what that music is for. to me it sounds like a really cool platform game, with groovy music, child like thing-i liked that you used pop drums inside a semi symphonic riffs. for film scoring, also it really depends on the context..it would sound abit comical and cartoony on real people i think.

one comment though, the introduction wasnt really introducing the real theme, i was expecting something more symphonic, but you add those drums, so you should probably do something a little different on the intro-musically wise. unless you want to surprise

First off, welcome to YC.

It is always a good idea to name a work that you wish people to listen to. I listened to Homeland. I assume it belongs to you, but am not entirely sure.

It is easy listening as you have noted on the track.

It always helps if you join in the community. If you are going to ask for people to comment on your music, then comment on some of theirs. That is what makes a site like this work.

Thanks so much for your reply and thank you both for your kind words.

@The J: "what that music is for"

I just hoped to make some nice background music. Not as (sometimes boring) ambient music and with a lot of instruments for a full sound. On the other hand: I just love to compose. Love to start with that "white paper" and create something. :)

@rolifer: I corrected my text. Thanks for pointing that out. And I just introduced myself.

I'm just a beginner in composing so I'm not sure if I can review some of the other work. But I can give them a "I like it" (or not).

Like I sad in the first post: I can't tell if my music is any good or not. So I'm very thankful for your reply. I would love to continue to compose music but if nobody likes to listen to it, I guess there is no point in doing it, right?

Thanks again.

well the point is also that you can enjoy it yourself, if anything...to get the audience i guess you'd have to impress us or your friends to get our attention.

Hey Rowen,

First off, thank you so much for posting in my threads. It's super appreciated.

I had a listen to all your tracks. I enjoyed Homeland more than the others. It has a neat little catchy violin lead. It's a little long and repetitive but that could work in game media or even some background for something like a corporate video.

Keep working on improving yourself.

Regarding, "is this good?", i think that's something you should be able to adequately answer for yourself. Until you are 100% satisfied with that answer i would stick to making music for yourself, something i couldn't personally live without. Build up your portfolio with a diverse range of genres and 'feels' until you're confident enough to start putting your stuff out there.

If you're doing this as a hobby, don't worry what others think. Even if you're not, perhaps you haven't found a way to represent that unique voice in your head enough for others to be able to see it yet. Keep composing and never stop if you love it. :)

Thanks to all of you.

@Duncan11

Actually I have a little portfolio and trying out a lot of different thinks (like wild :))

I was thinking "back and forth" for months now to put my music "out there". But when is the right time to do that? "Am I good enough to show it now?"

Anyway

I'm glad I did. Now with you guys chatting and all. It just feels like belonging. And that feels really nice!

Thanks again.

homeland was very good and enjoyable to listen to. I liked it a lot. A little too much kick/bass drum though you shouldn't have that string 4 kick drums being hit in the beat but otherwise it's very good.
