Piano Trio Ab 2nd Movement Complete (Classical)

Featured Replies

Hello all I have been exceedingly busy lately and haven't been able to compose much but I finally started having time recently and finished the second movement I've been working on. At least for the most part, there's a couple spots I need to touch up and I may change the ending as I don't like it too much.

Not posting the first movement because I posted that previously in another thread and it's highly inferior to the 2nd and soon to be 3rd anyway because it was my first chamber work attempt.

The second is in Db in ABA format. Basically two outlying Db sections with a more robust inner section in the minor.

and as a bonus here's the 3rd movement I just started yesterday

Hey, thanks for your comments on my latest post. I was actually listening to this piece you posted the day before. This was a beautiful movement. The dominant to minor right in the beginning was just captivating. But that minor section! I couldn't help but smile. The recapitulation I was most interested in. I liked how familiar, yet different you made it. I heard the same tune, but the variation kept it interesting! Thank you for making my day better with this piece.

Man, I wish I could hear this live. There's an intense balance issue with the piano and strings, unless that's just me.

Anywho, I'm not too much of a fan of classical but I really liked this piece! You are very fluent in counterpoint; it all flows together nicely. I commend you on that skill, I definitely need to learn more about that. I'll listen to the other movements in a bit.

thanks for the comments sepharite. Can you please elaborate on what balance issue specifically you're talking about because I'd really like to know so I can try to tweak it. Are the strings too loud over the piano or vice versa etc? Let me know and I'll try to re balance it a bit because to me it sounds somewhat normal but I might have a poor ear for that not having heard many chamber works performed live personally.

The piano is a little too soft at places, and is easily overpowered by the strings, especially at important places where the piano has the melody. I'll look it over again and tell you which bars. Then again, it might just be me. I say wait for someone else to comment. :P

Very beautiful, I like your main theme a lot, and it certainly sounds like classical music :-). Sometimes the piece seems to be forced into the style a bit to much, but i like the way you write counterpoint and the thematic balance between the instruments.
