Dungeon or Town Theme

Featured Replies

I think that it does an ok job being a town theme or dungeon theme. I tried to improve over previous things i've done and take into account what people here have helped me to see, so i hope it sounds ok.

It's not bad for a town theme -- definitely not a dungeon theme. It doesn't have that lurking and cautious quality that dungeon themes. This is more of a peaceful, summer day theme.

Some odd dissonances you need to clean up, like the mm 8, F# and Fn clash. Your ideas are great but you don't seem to continue it. It sometimes goes into different directions making some ideas sound out of place (like the bar on the 2nd page, 2nd line, 3rd bar). it got better when the flutes came in, but perhaps give more variety instead of copy/pasting the whole way through. Ending was good though, it really showed it dying it, with the flutes and horns. By the way, I love the last chord :P Keep composing!

It is always best if you post a link to a mp3 since a lot of us don't have Finale. Boxnet is a free site to host your mp3's.

I see that this is your first post of music and it is a good start for someone that is just beginning. The first question you need to ask yourself is what would happen if I handed this score to a player? The horn player would look at it and say to himself, How loud should I play these notes? So would the Pianist and the rest. Dynamics are very important in music. I knew before looking at your score that you had not included any dynamic markings. When you compose, you have to become the conductor and decide how loud each note needs to be. Rework this piece with some dynamics, and you will hear a big difference.

Thanks for your great feedback! I will definitely take it into account while I improve this piece and in the future!
