Trio in E major (D.B, Cl, Vl)

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I've finished a chamber music piece. It's a trio in E major. It's written for double bass, cello and violin. I took me about two weeks to write. I has a lose form. The only thing keeping it together is the repeat of the main theme near the end. I'm perticulary interested in your views on the presentation. Is this piece presented properly? With the wright accidentals and such? I dont' have much knowledge there, so anything would help. Being blunt is accepted.

Thanks!

Gijs

I have to say that this piece is one of the most interesting I've ever heard. Strangely, I liked it, which I, honestly, didn't expect to because of the interesting tonality you created. I have a question for you regarding the piece:

What type of style were you aiming for? 20th Century? Modernist?

If I know the style, I can critique the piece in a better way.

Also, what do you mean by 'is the piece presented properly'?

My only complaint is that the beginning sounds awkward - almost as if you're trying to force the notes. I'd say on the second page of the score (or near that area) is where the piece picks up motion and depth.

I love your interaction between each instrument. It's a different style. Great job!

you said this music is E major but it look like atonal more than tonal music

Thanks for the reactions guys!

Regarding the style. My aim was, and I feel I only partially succeeded, to create three indepented voices. Like baroque, yet the vertical interaction is intuitive. So the different melodies are quit harmonic, the chord progression has no harmonic structure, other then my guts telling me what should come next. The melodies are tonal and the harmonies are atonal. The style is sort of a mixture between, baroque, romantic and a-tonal.

Regarding the key. The whole piece makes use of the notes from the E major key. I use some "regular" non-harmonics, like c-natural en f-natural. So the melodies are mostly in E major, used in a more romantic fasion. The harmonies are in no particular key. Although most of the chords will be in E major sinds most of the notes are in that key. So by change the chords will also be.

About the beginning notes. I know what you mean and I agree. I had difficulties finding the right notes. At first I had some harmonic notes, but they sounded even weirder. So this was the closest I could get to the mood/feeling I wanted with these three instruments.

About my question about the presentation. I wanted the know if the score was good. I don't study music, so I do things a little less academic. You guys have a more profound knowledge of score presentation. Therefor I wanted to know if I had included everything a score needs and such. Is this a professional looking score?
