June Solo Competition

Featured Replies

Most conpetitions will begin on the first of the month, but this one is a bit late. This month's competition will be to write a solo for a flute, with optional piano accompaniment. Each composition must be al least 73 measures long, and no more that 153. There are really no other guidelines, so have fun with this. Submissions will be due on June 30, and the winners will be announced on July 1 or July 2, depending on how many people enter.

Ok!

Any prize?

I am currently working on a flute solo, thank you for making this competition! =D

It sounds interesting. I might join, but I'm currently thinking having second thoughts to enter because I'm currently working on 6 pieces right now for some other competitions in YC and my personal issues........:dunno:

No prize as of yet. I will try to figure one out before teh deadline though.

Flute solo?

I'm down.

I'll enter this, seeing as I play flute and I love writing awesome solos...

Hey, can I write and be judge too? ><

Hmmmm.... I wasn't really planning on having any judges. And I wouldn't think it would be fair for you to be a judge of your own piece.

Wait, so we're going to have to try to match your personal tastes?

Eh, I've already started....

No it's not liek my personal tastes. I'll look at the compositional aspects, not necessarily by how much I like it. And I may have some friends help me judge. But I'm not sure I can have a completely un-biased competition with YC judges. I'll think about it. I have some ideas that will make it work.

why not have all the contestants vote for their favorite piece? (besides theirs - that would be a good way of running the judging process fairly)...

anyway, i love flute - play flute - and would love to enter.

I'm in.

That was an option. Or possibly everyone on YC voting. I wouldn't worry about that quite yet though. It will most likely be one of those now that I think about it.

I'm in! :)

Do you want submissions in this thread, or messaged to you?

I'm in.

Submissions should be e-mailed as attachments to internetphilharmonic@yahoo.com

  • 2 weeks later...

Hmmm... I might consider entering, but I'd be entering sort of late. What time June 30, midnight?

11:59, technically:).

Hey dude it's July 2. Who won?

  • Author

Well, the multiple movements in the Shor tStories made this very difficult to judge, even though there were only 2 entrants. If you guys can wait another day, I would like the composer of Short Stories to choose just 1 movement, perhaps 2, to be judged.

Short stories is one piece. A suit if you like. But it not consist of "movements" just different styles/parts (short parts). Please dont make me choose from them cause it's 153 measures as you intended and it wont be fare if you can see only 50 measeure from it. It's the different parts that make unique this piece. But THIS IS ONE PIECE. Take into consideration this please.

(Anyway I write it to the parts' key match with the others. So most of the parts are in Eb major. So it is one piece as I mentioned but with pauses.)

Hmmmm.... I had a very hard time judging the 2, but I have to go with the Impromptu, by Tyler Chen. Any questions, just send me an e-mail. Tyler, I'll tell you your prize at a later date:).

Woot! :) Thanks, musicman02.

Tyler/Pedalpoint, post your work in the chamber form and PM me the link to the thread - I'll feature it on the homepage as an extra prize. :)

Awesome! Done, and done.

Congrats!
