Rio Mesa Band

Featured Replies

Hey there YC!

So yeah, I pretty much suck at conducting a band....but if I conduct to the radio, its better...I think I just got shy in front of people....even though I know them, but I messed up a lot.

Here is my conducting North Bay Vistas By RObert W. Smith

My band sucks, I know....That is because most of them don't practice. haha.

And from now on, for many years, no one will make it to Honor band. I will be the only one in the next 10-15 years to make it into VCHB. :P

Anyways, here is the video. Let me know what you think of my conducting.

I had high hopes from the beginning, the horn section sounded like half a million dollars, despite having to battle the alto saxes trying to take them over. Then the trumpets came in and I gave up all hope. This is band, eh? I see a fiddle.

Eye contact, buddy. Know your score. Cue your musicians - gesture them to come in at the right time. Shape the music. Big downbeat cues on major sections. Waving your hand and flipping pages like a machine is elementary.

There is only 2 horns and 4 saxes.

I switched pieces last minute because they sucked at "An American Symphony" so I was not sure of the cues.

Yes, we have a violinist.
