Choral Phantasie

YES! Once again a very fun piece!

The Choral Phantasie is a mixture of fantasy and imagination. I would love to add an orhestra (and it would propable be another piece then?) but I decided on choir alone. I concentrated on sounds, rather than words.

This piece was written during the afternoon and I finished it in the evening. Those phrase markings was a nightmare! At least the score it clean!

Humming those ranges for tenor and soprano will be... fun...

I feel that your piece is good. I don't necessarily agree with no words... but hey, that's personal preference. I enjoy the lyric based pieces more. However, I think you came up with some nice things harmonically. I think your singers are going to have to work hard to hear those crunchy classical chords, since they build. Your voices leading is nice...

ONE thing.. your slurs unnerve me... I think they are just too crude. It might be the font you use.

The MMM's on the higher notes will be difficult, but doable. Otherwise, I think this is a fun little piece. It has sort of a prelude sound to me. Simple in the end result, but complex enough that it would require some thinking. Something simple to open the rehearsal, warm up the voice, tune up the ears, wake up the mind. Personally, I'd probably even add some consonants in there, if I was just running it in rehearsal. Some lip buzzing, or tongue rolling. Or make the long held notes a tremolo sort of sound, just to warm up consonants 'doodle/idle/peedle' for example. I'd never change things that drastically in performance, but this is the kind of piece where you can tweak one thing, and cheer up the choir on a bad/rough/energyless day.

I like it. It has a very traditional sound.

I'm a little unsure of the last four bars. You go from an Eb minor to Eb major, which is a common way to end this style of piece and adds a nice sense of finality. But then you throw in that A major and go back to the Eb. That just seems totally out of character with the rest of the piece, little a surreal little Amen. Was that your point?

Little surreal amen. YES! (I actually wanted to write the words amen, but declined in the end).

this is one of the better pieces i've seen you post... keep pursuing these ideas... keep pushing yourself and your writing and i think you'll achieve good things.
