Hi! I'm Andrew, and I'm new to this board, but I figured I'd jump right in and post some music. This is a short, romantic-drama style piece, built out of an old Fruity Loops concept I did years ago. I sequenced/edited the midi with Cubase 2, using the Miroslav Vitous Philharmonik VSTi (though I'm now using the EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Gold library primarily). Would love to hear any and all feedback you might have!

SoundClick artist: Andrew Wonders - Modern orchestral. Film/TV/Game style scores.

Thanks!

-Andrew

Nice, I love these types of minimalistic romantic film pieces. I mostly compose in a similar style myself.

Reminds me of the type of beautiful, airy Romantic music you hear in final fantasy.

This also sounds fuller than the sounds you hear from FL (wihout additional plug-ins.)

It sounds good, and strikes me as an intro, or intercession. Is this the lead into another stage/level?

Only the base structure was done in FL. It was just a sketch (or "skeleton" as I tend to call them), and sat dormant for several years. I dug it up recently, exported it from FL as a midi file, and then imported it into Cubase, where I fleshed it out, and ran it through the Miroslav Vitous Philharmonik VSTi (a mid-sized orchestral library).

I had pictured an emotional "reunion" type scene as I was writing it, but I've been really interested in hearing the different concepts and images it invokes in other people.

Thanks for the feedback!

Andrew

Welcome to YC.

In most Hollywood movies today, it seems that the Celesta has become the instrument to portray fantasy. The music can still picture a reunion scenario, but it might work better without the celesta. It also seems a bit loud in relation to the other instruments.

Still, a very nice piece.

rolifer,

Thanks for your feedback! I agree, the celesta is typically a "fantasy" instrument these days, so I can see how that imagery would come through on this piece. Perhaps I'll try a version without, as you suggested, and see how that sounds.

Hi Andrew. Nice work on this one. I like the point at which the marcato strings come in. The build-up is pretty nice. My only real crit is that I would like to hear a bit more variation in the melody line. Seems to be stuck on the same group of notes. Either that or possibly changing up the instrumentation by giving the melody to one of the other groups. But all in all, it's a nice little piece.
