Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov: Flight Of The Bumblebee

Ohhhh, spectacular piece. This piece was played in "The Pianist" on the piano. I like it much better played by the full orchestra, because that is how the piece was intended to be expressed as. Powerful piece, highly recommended.

Yo-Yo Ma can play the Flight of the Bumblebee on cello up to tempo! It's fascinating.

I've heard it on Tuba. That was great. At speed.

Lol! That must have been interesting!

There is this one guy that can sing every single note of that song with Yo-Yo Ma playing the cello, up to tempo. It's amazing. He doesn't just slur all the notes together-he actually sings every note seperatley(sp?)and in pitch with the cello.

You can listen to some of his songs here:

The Tuba version was a solo with the Liverpool Philharmonic, I believe. They had a guest tuba player - he also played the Aritijuan (sp?) Tuba concerto.

Anyone ever heard it played on Trombone, up to tempo if not faster?

I have. ^^ A military brass quintet came to a school in town for a master class, and I attended. And it was amazing.... the guy was insanely superb at trombone.

They also played Carnival of Venice, which was a good showcase of their trumpeters' skills.

Ah, nice. Was it the Carnival of Venice from the Arban book? I play that on trombone. Flight of the bumblebee must be hard - although I nearly bought it once.

I'm not sure what version it was; it had a solo for all instruments in the quintet, but both the trumpet solos were definetly the highlights of that piece.

  • 1 month later...

The Canadian Brass' tuba played it, but it didn't sound so good. Actually, I like it on guitar.

I played it on violin for a concert up-to-tempo. It was a piano and violin duet. Fascinating *.mp3 I have, but I don't remember where I putted it.

It would probably sound very appropriate on the ukulele.

However, it would sound really AWESOME on a harmonica...

If only...

It actually was written for a part in an opera, the Tale of Tsar Saltan. I'm hoping to get my hands on the score and parts soon but the prices are really high cause it's not well known! Check out the suite from the opera as well - that's really cool! :)

I started learning it on the contrabassoon once. I should really find the music and play it again.

I am likely to put a *.mid file with a arrangement of "The Flight of the Bumblebee". If I am wrong (since the *.mid file didn't have a name when I acquired it), please excuse me.
