Piano piece in Phrygian mode

Featured Replies

This piece currently has no name, but it was an exercise for my composition lessons in the Phrygian mode. I'm still not sure of the clarity of the form (it's basically a rondo), so that was my main issue in writing this piece. The rhythmic elements in combination with the modal elements are supposed to be what give this piece its interest.

I like it! Did you mean to have the electric guitar sound in your MIDI, though? :D

Hahaha...no, but it's kinda fun....I'll change it to piano, though. ;)

Edit: Thanks for the comment!

The 1 1/2 octave chordal eighth note jumps in the left hand will be pretty tough especially at P, but overall I liked the sound of it. Very original. Good job.

Thanks! I'm hoping it shouldn't be too bad, because it's not exactly a really fast tempo, but I guess we'll see when I try to get someone to play it.

I'm sure someone good enough could do it, but at the speed you have it it

I liked it too.

I only felt that the chromaticism abandoned the overall phrygian feel. Sometimes it works, ms 4 will do, but ms 16 is too much...

Cool piece. Some cool chord progressions. I'm wondering if it should be taken a little bit faster. It sounds like the piece is dragging a little. Another thing I was concerned about was 0"39-0"45. It's sounds a little empty there. Should there be a melody line perhaps with the top note of the chords? Should the bass be more active? It just feels a little incomplete.
